Daraufhin sagte er: "Ich ermahne euch, Allah zu fürchten und dem Anführer zu gehorchen, auch wenn er ein äthiopischer Sklave sein sollte. Diejenigen unter euch, die mich überleben, werden schon eine Menge an Meinungsverschiedenheiten feststellen. Eure Pflicht ist es aber, meiner Sunna und der Sunna meiner rechtgeleiteten Nachfolger (Kalifen) hartnäckig zu folgen, und dass ihr euch vor Neuerungen hütet, denn jede Neuerung (die dem Islam widerspricht) ist ein Irrtum."
