The early Muslims in Makkah not only found it difficult to practice Islam openly, but were persecuted by the Quraish in many ways. SubhanAllah it was only when they migrated to Madinah they were able to fully worship Allah with no fear. And this wasn't because they merely migrated from one city to another, but it is because they went to Madinah where a new society, a new life was awaiting them under the new Islamic system. The Hijrah was more than just moving to another location to get away from the oppression in Makkah. The Hijrah signifies the ascendancy of Islam and the establishment of an Islamic State. And just like the Hijrah that took place 1400 years ago when Muslims left their homes to a land where the Prophet (saw) set up the very first Islamic State, we too are now in need of a land where we can live by Islam. And although there currently exists many 'Muslim' countries, in reality Muslims worldwide have no Islamic State to turn to be it for reasons of oppression, security or even support. This will only be possible when Khilafah returns bringing a just system, ensuring that we live only by Allahs legislation and no man made laws.
