Das Lesen des Qur´an am Grab ist nicht vorgeschrieben im Islam weil es hierüber keine Berichte vom Propheten (sallaAllahu `alaihi wa sallam) gibt die besagen, dass er (sallaAllahu `alaihi wa sallam) es tat. Das ständige Komitee für Fatwa-Angelegenheiten wurde gefragt: „Ist es gestattet Surah al-Fatiha oder etwas anderes aus dem Qur´an für den Verstorbenen beim Besuch an seinem Grabe zu rezitieren und ist es von Nutzen für ihn (dem Verstorbenen)?" Sie antworteten: „Es ist bewiesen, dass der Prophet (sallaAllahu `alaihi wa sallam) die Gräber zu besuchen pflegte und er sprach Du`ahs (Bittgebete) für die Toten und lehrte diese seinen Gefährten und diese lernten sie von ihm. Beispielsweise: „Al-salaamu 'alaykum ahl al-diyaar min al-mu'mineen wa'l-Muslimeen, wa inna in sha Allaah bikum laahiqoon, nas'al Allaaha lana wa lakum al-'aafiyah (Friede sei mit euch, Bewohner dieser Stätte, von den Gläubigen und Muslimen. Und gewiss werden wir euch, so Allah will, nachfolgen. Ich bitte Allah für uns und für euch um Wohlbefinden.)" Es gibt aber keinen Bericht, dass er (sallaAllahu `alaihi wa sallam) eine Surah vom Qur´an oder irgendwelche Ayah (Verse) für den Toten rezitierte, obwohl er sie oft besuchte. Wenn dies vorgeschrieben wäre, so hätte er (sallaAllahu `alaihi wa sallam) es getan und auch seine Gefährten darin unterwiesen nach trachten um Belohnung und aus Gnade für seine Ummah (Gemeinschaft) und der Pflicht erfüllend seine Botschaft zu verkünden. Allah (Gepriesen und Hocherhaben ist Er) beschreibt ihn (sallaAllahu `alaihi wa sallam) wie folgt (in der ungefähren Bedeutung): „Zu euch ist nunmehr ein Gesandter aus euren eigenen Reihen gekommen. Bedrückend ist es für ihn, wenn ihr in Bedrängnis seid, (er ist) eifrig um euch bestrebt, zu den Gläubigen gnadenvoll und barmherzig." [Surah at-Taubah (9):128] Die Tatsache, dass er (sallaAllahu `alaihi wa sallam) es nicht tat, obgleich es Gründe gab warum er (sallaAllahu `alaihi wa sallam) es tun sollte, beweist dass es nicht vorgeschrieben ist. Seine Gefährten (Möge Allah Wohlgefallen an ihnen haben) wussten dies und folgten seinen Fußstapfen und sie beschränkten sich auf die erlernten Lektionen und sprachen Du`ahs (Bittgebete) für die Toten wenn sie sie besuchten. Es gibt keinen Bericht, dass sie Qur´an für die Toten gelesen haben. Für sie (die Sahabah – möge Allah Wohlgefallen an ihnen haben) ist eine solche Lesung eine Erneuerung (Bid`ah) und es ist bewiesen, dass der Prophet (sallaAllahu `alaihi wa sallam) sagte: „Wer auch immer etwas in dieser unserer Angelegenheit (d.h. dem Islam) einführt was nicht Bestandteil davon ist, bekommt es abgewiesen."
