Das Denkmal, dass sich der türkische Staatspräsident derzeit setzt, ist gesetzeswidrig. Das Bauprojekt wird ohne Genehmigung auf dem Gelände des denkmal- und naturgeschützten Atatürk-Forsts realisiert. Eine symbolische Tat: Mit ihr stellt sich Erdogan gewissermassen über Kemal Atatürk. Als Gerichte forderten, dass die Bauarbeiten gestoppt werden sollen, entgegnete Erdogan: Mann solle versuchen, den Palast abzureissen. Die Einweihung soll am 29.10.14 stattfinden.
