Chronik-Fotos Ihre Mutter hat ihren Verstand verloren, erzählt mit gestern eine Bekannte aus Syrien. Die einst starke Frau, die ihr Leben lang ihre Kinder fast im Alleingang aufgezogen hat, hat die ständigen Bombardements ihres Viertels durch syrische Regimetruppen nicht verkraftet. Sie hat einfach ihre Erinnerung ausgeschaltet. Zwei ihrer Nichten leben inzwischen mit ihrer Schwester und der Mutter völlig traumatisiert in Kairo. Eine, die 12jährige traut sich nicht mehr alleine in ein leeres Zimmer. Die jüngere, erzählt auch beim Spielen ständig über ihre Erfahrungen aus dem Krieg. Zwei Cousins meiner Bekannten sind umgekommen. Als sie versucht haben nach einem Bombardement Überlebende aus den Häusertrümmern zu bergen, wurden die Ruinen erneut bombardiert.Einge gängige Praxis in diesem Krieg. In Syrien lassen sich noch nicht einmal die Toten und Verletzten bergen, ohne dass der Tod erneut zuschlägt. Eine von vielen traurigen Geschichten, die hinter den Zahlen stecken, die die UNO jetzt veröffentlicht hat, die die syrische Saga als den „größten humanitären Notstand unsere Zeit" beschreibt. Mindestens 190.000 Tote gibt es inzwischen. Die Hälfte der syrischen Bevölkerung ist auf der Flucht. Jeder achte Syrer hat inzwischen das Land verlassen. (Das wäre umgerechnet auf Deutschland 10 Millionen, auf Österreich eine Millionen Menschen, die aus Verzweiflung ihre Heimat verlassen müssen). Gestern Abend habe ich Lieder, der libanesischen Diva Fairuz angehört, wie so oft bei meinen Besuchen in Damaskus, Aleppo oder im Rest des Landes in den letzten zwei Jahrzehnten. Sie ist für mich die Stimme der Levante. Ich habe darüber nachgedacht, ob und wo und wie diese vielen großartigen Menschen noch leben, die ich in Syrien kennenlernen durfte; und darüber, wie ein ganzes Land vor die Hunde geht und wir alle dabei zusehen.
