    Fatih Sultan Mehmed Han İstanbul'u fethettiği zaman, hocası Akşemseddin hazretlerine, Cuma namazını Ayasofya'da kılmak istediğini ve hocasına kendisinin imam olmasını söyler. Ayasofya'yı cami yapmak için seferber olunur. Cuma gününe cami yetiştirilir, cemaat namaza başladığı sırada Fatih Sultan Mehmed Han'ın abdesti kaçar. Tabii sultanın yanında da rastgele insanlar olmaz. Sağında ve solunda da en büyük hocalar, şeyh efendiler saf tutarlar. Kamet getirilir, imam Allahü ekber der. Fatih Sultan Mehmed han, ne yapacağını şaşırır. Abdestsiz namaz kılınmaz. Abdest almaya çıksa izdiham olacak... Namaz kılar gibi eğilip kalksa, Cumadan mahrum kalacak. Ya Rabbi, ben ne yapayım şimdi derken, yanındaki bir şeyh efendi firasetiyle vaziyeti anlar. Cübbesini açar, buradan abdest al der. Sultan bakar ki, çeşme var, su var. Acele olarak abdestini alır ve rükûa varmadan önce imama yetişir. Namaz biter, selam verilir, dualar yapılır.
    Ertesi gün Fatih Sultan Mehmed Han, hocası Akşemseddin hazretlerini ziyarete gider. Ayrılırken, (Hocam dua buyurun) der. O da, (Allah iman selameti versin) der.
    Daha uzun dua bekleyen Fatih Sultan Mehmed Han, şaşırıp kalır. Hocası sorar;
    — Ne oldu, beğenmedin mi?
    — Bu kadar mı efendim?
    — Evladım yetmez mi? En kıymetli dua budur. Dün sana cübbesini açıp abdest aldıran şeyh, bir saat önce öldü; ama imansız gitti; çünkü bu kerametinden dolayı ona kibir geldi.
