In einer Diskussion mit der amerikanischen Botschafterin in Ägypten argumentiert er, eine demokratische Regierung dürfe man nicht stürzen, auch wenn sie einem (den USA) nicht passt! Er erinnert unter anderem an den Militärputsch in Chile im Jahr 1973 mit General Pinochet gegen den demokratisch gewählten Präsidenten Salvador Allende.
