(105:1) Hat Er nicht ihre List misslingen lassen (105:2) und Vögel in Scharen über sie gesandt (105:3), die sie mit brennenden Steinen bewarfen (105:4), und sie dadurch wie abgefressene Saat gemacht? (105:5) Die anderen fanden diese Idee ausgezeichnet und machten sich sogleich ans Werk. Sie holten lange Eisenstangen mit gebogenen Spitzen, steckten sie in den Elefantenschlund und versuchten, diesen damit blutig zu reißen; vielleicht würden die Schmerzen den Elefanten aufstacheln und zum Aufstehen bringen, wenn sie ihm gar zu groß würden. Ihre Vermutung war zwar richtig: Der Elefant erhob sich, aber er wendete sich in Richtung Jemen und rannte drauf los! Die Leute stürmten hinter ihm her, bis sie ihn eingeholt hatten, sie hielten ihn fest und drehten ihn in Richtung Makka, um ihn zurückzubringen; der Elefant jedoch sträubte sich, auch nur einen Schritt zu tun. Die Männer wendeten ihn nach Osten, und er lief los, sie wendeten ihn nach Westen, und er lief los. Sobald sie ihn aber zurück in Richtung Makka drehten, wurde er wieder störrisch! Dann aber geschah etwas noch Seltsameres: Merkwürdige schreckliche Vögel kamen herbeigeflogen, immer mehr und immer mehr, bis schließlich Scharen über Scharen über dem abessinischen Heer kreisten. Schon das eigenartige Verhalten des Elefanten hatte die Männer beunruhigt und in ihnen dunkle Vorahnungen geweckt, jetzt aber beschlich diese sonst so unerschrockenen Männer regelrecht Angst, und voller Beklommenheit blickten sie zu den Vögeln empor. Plötzlich schreit einer der Männer auf und stürzt zu Boden - Blut quillt aus seiner Schulter hervor, und die neben ihm Stehenden sehen, dass irgendetwas tief in seine Schulter eingedrungen ist. Was war das? Vielleicht ein Steinchen, das einer der Vögel hat fallen lassen? Aber so etwas hatten sie noch nie erlebt! Doch da! Ein zweiter Mann greift mit schmerzverzerrtem Gesicht nach seinem Arm, der von irgendetwas durchschlagen ist und dann prasselt auf einmal ein Hagel von Steinen auf das Heer herab - mörderische Höllensteine aus glühend gebranntem Ton, nur linsengroß, aber die Vögel lassen sie offenbar gezielt auf die Männer herabfallen, und wie fürchterliche Geschosse durchbohren sie die Körper der Soldaten. Schon winden sich viele unter qualvollen Schmerzen auf der Erde, voller Entsetzen versuchen diejenigen, die noch nicht getroffen sind, zu fliehen - sie trampeln, stolpern und fallen über ihre gestürzten Kameraden, sie raffen sich wieder auf, fallen erneut, werden selbst durchbohrt - es gibt kein Entkommen vor diesen furchtbaren Steinen! Nachdem die Vögel ihren göttlichen Auftrag beendet hatten und daraufhin im weiten Reich des Himmels verschwanden und der Himmel anfing, sich langsam zu lichten, und man beinah glaubte, dass der Schrecken vorüber sei, da zogen dunkle Wolken auf. Der Wind wird stärker und immer heftiger. Immer dichter ballen sich die Wolken zusammen und der Himmel bedeckt sich mehr und mehr, der Wind wird zum heftigen Sturm, fegt Sandwolken vor sich her und wirbelt die Kiesel der Wüste empor. Sand hüllt das Heer Abrahas ein, und nun prasseln die Kiesel auf die Gesichter und Körper der Soldaten. Voller Entsetzen und mit letzter Kraft versuchen diejenigen, die noch dazu in der Lage sind, sich in Sicherheit zu bringen, aber dann werfen auch sie sich mit den Gesichtern auf die Erde. Und so kam es, dass schließlich das ganze Heer Abrahas wie niedergestreckt am Boden lag bis auf wenige Männer, denen es gelungen war, in die Berge zu fliehen und sich dort in Höhlen, in Schluchten und hinter Felsen niederzukauern. Allāh (t) hatte sie verschont, damit sie später vor den Menschen und für die Geschichte als Augenzeugen des schrecklichen Geschehens auftreten konnten.
