Gott opferte demnach seinen "einzigen Sohn" für die Sünden der Welt. Was ist davon zu halten? Bei näherer Beschäftigung mit dem Thema gelangt man zu der Erkenntnis, dass die Rede vom "Sohn Gottes" auf einem Mißverständnis beruht, denn die Bezeichnung "Sohn Gottes" hatte im Judentum eine ganz andere Bedeutung. Im übertragenen Sinne werden die Menschen im Alten und Neuen Testament auch als "Kinder Gottes" bezeichnet.Im Judentum hatte dies noch eine andere Bedeutung. In der Thora bzw. im Alten Testament wird David als "Sohn Gottes" ( 2 Sam 7,14) angesprochen und die Könige des alten Israel wurden von den Juden als "Söhne Gottes" bezeichnet. Bei der Inthronisierung des Königs wurde gesagt: "Du bist der Sohn Gottes". Glaubten die Juden, dass dies leibliche Söhne des Allerhöchsten wären? Nein, natürlich nicht, denn die Juden waren und sind strenge Monotheisten. Die Rede vom "Sohn Gottes" meinte bei ihnen, dass ein Mensch über die anderen Menschen erhöht worden war. Die ersten Christen, die Jerusalemer Gemeinde, waren noch vom Judentum geprägt und dies führte nicht zu Mißverständnissen. Als Paulus die christl. Lehre u.a. zu den Römern brachte, wurde die Bezeichnung "Sohn Gottes" aber ganz anders verstanden. Im Verlauf von mehreren Jahrhunderten wurde - unter dem erkennbaren Einfluss der griechischen Philosophie - die Dreifaltigkeitslehre entwickelt. Der Koran, der Isa bzw. Jesus 14 Mal als Messias bezeichnet, lehnt diese Rede von einem "Sohn Gottes" ab. In der Sure al-Ikhlas heißt es (Übersetzung von Friedrich Rückert): „Sprich: Gott ist Einer, ein ewig reiner, hat nicht gezeugt und ihn gezeugt hat keiner, und nicht ihm gleich ist einer."
