Syria says to attend Geneva but won't hand over power
Syria will send delegates to a Geneva peace conference under President Bashar al-Assad's orders, but his control over the war-torn country will not be under discussion, an official says.
The January 22 peace conference is aimed at ending the nearly three-year-old civil war, a bloody stalemate which has killed an estimated 120,000 people and driven millions from their homes.
"Syria announces the participation of an official delegation under the orders of (President Assad) and the demands of the Syrian people, with the top priority of eliminating terrorism," said a foreign ministry source quoted by state media on Wednesday.
The source also said the delegation was not going to Geneva to hand over power, and that the condition stipulated by Syria's opposition and the West that Assad must not have a role in the country's future was out of the question.
"Our people will not allow anyone to steal their right to choose their future and their leaders, and what is key about Geneva is to assert the Syrians' rights, and not of those who are spilling the people's blood."
The source criticized "the French, British and other foreign ministries as well as their agents in the Arab world who have insisted that there can be no place for President Assad in the transitional period.
"The ministry reminds them that the age of colonialism is over, and they need to wake up."
Syria has been gripped by deadly unrest since 2011. According to reports, the Western powers and their regional allies are supporting the militants and Takfiri terrorists operating inside the Arab country.

Iraq attacks kill 30, 19 bodies found in Baghdad
Suicide bombings and other attacks have killed 30 people in Iraq, and authorities have found the bodies of 19 others shot dead in Baghdad.
The latest violence, just months ahead of landmark elections, pushed the number of slain so far this year above 6,000 as the country endures its worst prolonged spate of bloodshed since 2008, AFP reported.
Although there have been no claims of responsibility for much of the unrest, authorities are concerned about a resurgent al-Qaeda, emboldened by the civil war raging in neighboring Syria.
Most of the violence on Wednesday struck Baghdad and northern and western Iraq, which have borne the brunt of the months-long spike in bloodletting.
Four suicide bombers detonated their explosives, but the carnage could have been much worse because security forces shot dead several would-be suicide attackers.
Meanwhile, in two separate areas of the capital, police found the bodies of 14 men, all in their 20s or 30s, and all shot dead, medical officials said.
Eight of the corpses were found blindfolded in the Dura neighborhood, while six others had been dumped in a canal in Shuala.
In the northern district of Hurriyah, a family of five -- three men and two women -- were shot dead in their home in a pre-dawn attack.
Shootings, bombings and mortar fire in various other parts of the capital left five others dead Wednesday.
Elsewhere, shootings and bombings -- including four suicide attacks -- killed 25 people.
In Abu Ghraib, west of Baghdad, a man blew himself up in the middle of a funeral, killing nine people.
In northern Diyala province, a vehicle rigged with explosives and detonated by a suicide attacker killed three members of Kurdish peshmerga forces.
Two separate attacks involving multiple suicide bombers against police near Ramadi, west of Baghdad, killed at least seven policemen and left 15 others wounded.
One of the attacks involved a car bomb set off by a suicide attacker on the western outskirts of the city, followed by a firefight between militants and police in which four suicide bombers blew themselves up.
Five policemen were killed and 11 were wounded.
A separate suicide bombing at a police station just north of the city killed two more policemen and left four wounded.
Shootings in and around Mosul left five people dead, and an anti-Qaeda militiaman was gunned down in Salaheddin province.
The government has trumpeted wide-ranging security operations targeting militants, primarily in the north and west, including the arrest of 25 people on Wednesday, but daily attacks have shown no sign of abating.
More than 6,000 people have been killed so far this year, according to an AFP tally based on reports from security and medical officials.

Angola verbietet Islam - Islamische Welt empört
Angola hat Kirchen und Sekten verboten, "die im Widerspruch zu Gewohnheiten und Sitten der angolanischen Kultur stehen" - darunter den Islam. Ob diese Meldung stimmt, ist derzeit unklar - die islamische Welt aber ist empört.
Der Islam ist in dem südwestafrikanischen Öl Staat Angola lokalen Medienberichten zufolge verboten worden. Das Kultusministerium und das Justizministerium haben laut der angolanischen Nachrichtenagentur Angop vom Dienstag auch zahlreichen anderen Organisationen die Anerkennung als Religionsgemeinschaft verweigert.
Es gehe nicht nur um Muslime, sondern grundsätzlich um Kirchen und Sekten, "die im Widerspruch zu Gewohnheiten und Sitten der angolanischen Kultur stehen", meinte Kultusministerin Rosa Cruze Silva laut Angop. Zahlreiche religiöse Stätten müssten deshalb geschlossen werden. Mindestens 194 religiösen Organisationen seien weitere Aktivitäten in Angola verboten worden.
"Das endgültige Aus für den Islam"
Westliche Diplomaten in Luanda bestätigten der Nachrichtenagentur dpa zwar die Schritte der Behörden gegen den Islam und andere Religionsgemeinschaften. Angolanische und internationale Medien zitierten angolanische Minister und sogar den Präsidenten José Eduardo dos_Santos mit Rechtfertigungen der jüngsten Maßnahmen. "Das ist das endgültige Aus für den Islam in unserem Land", sagte Dos Santos laut "Osun Defence Daily".
Eine Bestätigung für diese Aussage war am Dienstag in Luanda aber nicht zu bekommen.

"Ich übernehme des ganze Waisenhaus" (27.11.2013): Ein Bruder meldete sich bei uns, möge Allah ihn segnen, und wollte die kompletten restlichen Baukosten des Waisenhaus + Islamschule "Home of Taqwa" in Ghana übernehmen. Gesagt getan und so zahlte er die restlichen 12.000 € für dieses Vorhaben. Taaaakbiiir !!! Die Waisenkinder sind überglücklich und können es kaum abwarten bis der Bau fertiggestellt ist bi'idhnillah. ما أحسب المتفرقين على حقهم أصحاب حق، فطبيعة الحق أن يجمع أهله! إن أعدادا كبيرة من السائرين تحت لواء الحق تكمن في بواطنهم أباطيل كثيرة، فهم يحتشدون بأجسامهم فقط تحت رايته، ويبدو أن المآرب الكثيرة، والأغراض المختلفة، تجعل لكل منهم وجهة هو موليها، وذاك في نظري ما جعل ثورات عديدة تسرق من أصحابها، ويسير بها الشطار إلى غاية أخرى! حتى قيل: الثورات يرسمها المثاليون وينفذها الفدائيون ويرثها المرتزقة!! ترى لو كان المثاليون والفدائيون على قلب رجل واحد في الإيثار والتجدد أكان يبقى للمرتزقة موضع قدم؟ إن أخطاء خفية، نستخف بها عادة، هي التي تنتهي بذلك المصير! ـــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــ الشيخ محمد الغزالي ( الحق المر )
