I don't know how this matches up with other Ashkenazi Jews' DNA (unless it means we are not 'really' Ashkenazi -- shocker as we descend from Russia and Rumania most recently) but I found it weirdly a relief -- to be a mutt/multiracial/multiethnic mixture. Not known to many is that there were more than just one Persian Sahabi. Apart from Salman al-Farsi we have: - FAYRUZ AL-DAYLAMI رضي الله عنه (also known as "Abu Al-Dhahhak" or "Abu Abdul-Rahman"): A Persian from the descandants of Persian Zoroastrians. He belonged to the descendants (abna) of Persians that had been sent by Khusraw (Kisra) Anooshiravan to Yemen, conquered it, and drove out the Abyssinians (the south of Yemen was basically occupied and ruled by Persians). He was sent out by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to assassinate Aswad Ansi, who had claimed prophethood in Yemen. In reference to this, the Prophet was reported as saying, "He was killed by the virtuous man Fayruz b. al-Daylami." Fayruz died during the caliphate of Othman Ibn 'Affan, may Allah be pleased with them all. - SALEM the Mawla of Hudhayfah رضي الله عنهما A Persian Sahabi, who was from The foremost, the first of the emigrants, a Badri, one of the first Sahabah. He accepted Islam before Salman Al-Farsi, for Salman accepted Islam in Madinah (did not witness the Makkan period at all). He was a highly respected and valued Muslim (among his fellow Muslims), who died while fighting against the forces of Musaylimah during the Wars of Apostasy. The Prophet صل الله عليه و سلم advised his Ummah to take the Qur'an from Salem (and not some imaginary 'infallible Imam') in a Sahih Hadith: "Learn the Qur'an from four persons: Abd-Allah ibn Mas'ud, SALEM the Mawla of Hudhayfah, Ubayy ibn Kab and Muadh ibn Jabal." Abdullah Ibn Omar, the son of Omar Ibn Al-Khattab (رضي الله عنهما), one of the major companions of the Messenger of Allah (صل الله عليه و على آله و سلم) said the following about Salem: وعن ابن عمر ، قال : كان سالم مولى أبي حذيفة يؤم المهاجرين الذين قدموا من مكة حتى قدم المدينة ؛ لأنه كان أقرأهم . Ai shkoi për ta marrë bashkëshorten Ummi Kulthum, e cila solli me vete gjërat që i duhen një gruaje kur lind. Ummi Kulthumi hyri në shtëpi dhe i ndihmoi gruas derisa ajo lindi, kurse Omeri filloi të përgatiste ushqimin. Umm Kulthumi doli dhe tha: "O prijës i besimtarëve, përgëzoje shokun tënd me lajmin për lindjen e një djali". Kur burri e mori vesh se njeriu që po u shërbente ishte Omer ibn Hattabi, ai u ngrit në këmbë në shenjë respekti. Omeri i tha: "Rri aty ku ishe", pastaj ai ia dërgoi ushqimin që ia kishte përgatitur gruas, të cilën bashkëshortja e tij e ushqeu derisa u ngop.
