Hersh: Obama administration lied about gas attack in Syria
Hersh said that a high-level intelligence officer described the Obama administration's assurances of Syrian government's responsibility a 'ruse'. The attack 'was not the result of the current regime', the officer wrote in an email to a colleague.
Prominent American investigative journalist Seymour Hersh says US President Barack Obama did not tell the whole story about a chemical weapons attack near the Syrian capital of Damascus in August.
The Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, in a new report published in the London Review of Books, wrote that the administration of President Obama was aware of the fact that the militants fighting against the Syrian government had the ability to make chemical weapons but did not inform the public about it.
"Barack Obama did not tell the whole story this autumn when he tried to make the case that Bashar al-Assad was responsible for the chemical weapons attack near Damascus on 21 August. In some instances, he omitted important intelligence, and in others he presented assumptions as facts," he wrote in the article.
Hersh added that the US president refused to acknowledge that the al-Nusra Front, an al-Qaeda affiliated group, according to classified US intelligence reports, had mastered the mechanics of producing Sarin gas. Sarin is a nerve agent which based on the findings of a UN investigation team was used in the chemical rocket attack near Damascus.
"When the attack occurred al-Nusra should have been a suspect, but the administration cherry-picked intelligence to justify a strike against Assad."
Obama in a televised speech on 10 September accused the Syrian government of carrying out the chemical attack which killed hundreds of people including women and children.
"We know the Assad regime was responsible … And that is why, after careful deliberation, I determined that it is in the national security interests of the United States to respond to the Assad regime's use of chemical weapons through a targeted military strike." said Obama.
President Obama was going to war with Syria but he was doing so without knowing for sure who did what in the early morning of 21 August, Hersh went on to add.
The American investigative journalist said that military and intelligence officials were angry with "the deliberate manipulation of intelligence" over the incident.
Hersh said that a high-level intelligence officer described the Obama administration's assurances of Syrian government's responsibility a 'ruse'. The attack 'was not the result of the current regime', the officer wrote in an email to a colleague.
He wrote that another senior intelligence official told him that "the Obama administration had altered the available information - in terms of its timing and sequence - to enable the president and his advisers to make intelligence retrieved days after the attack look as if it had been picked up and analyzed in real time, as the attack was happening."
The Syrian government has vehemently denied the US allegations. It blames the foreign-backed Takfiri militants for carrying out the deadly chemical attack.

Israel ranked poorest member of OECD
A new report says Israel has the lowest living standards among the 35 members of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
In its economic survey for 2013, the organization says Israel's "average living standards remain well below the top-ranking OECD countries," adding, "The rate of relative poverty is highest in the OECD area and there are ongoing environmental challenges."
The report warned against severe deterioration of living conditions in Israel, saying, "The incomes of about one in five Israeli households fall below the (relative) poverty line."
The 111-page report notes that Israel stands below average in "social connections, housing, education and skills, personal security, environmental quality and civic engagement."
In recent years, the gap between the rich and the poor in Israel has widened considerably.
In October, a report released by Israel's Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) said about 31 percent of Israelis are close to the poverty line.
The report also indicated that some 40 percent of Israeli children are facing the risk of poverty, which is also double the rate in Europe.
Momi Dahan, an official at Hebrew University in al-Quds (Jerusalem), said the high poverty rate is due to Israel's constant cuts in welfare benefits over the past 30 years.
He added that the 2013 Israeli austerity budget "continues the current policy of cutting welfare spending, mainly through cuts in children benefits, which now became even lower."
Many Israelis have been migrating in recent months to Germany and the United States. It is said that the Israelis are leaving Israel on economic grounds.
High taxes and low salaries have had adverse effects on the lives of Israelis, specifically the middle class, in recent years.
Discontented Israelis almost regularly take to the streets in Tel Aviv and other cities to protest against Tel Aviv's economic plans and the painful austerity measures, which have raised income and value-added taxes and cut welfare benefits.

UN, EU subsidize French crimes in CAR : Analyst
The United Nations and the European Union are subsidizing the French government's crimes in the poverty-stricken Central African Republic (CAR), an analyst says.
"Paris is not only getting praise for it, it is being subsidized by the international community for its endeavors," Finian Cunningham wrote in a column for Press TV website on Sunday.
Cunningham's remarks come several days after the UN Security Council unanimously adopted a resolution giving the African Union and France the go-ahead to send troops to the CAR. According to the resolution, up to 3,600 African and 1,200 French troops are authorized to contain the violence in the former French colony.
Meanwhile, EU Commission chief, José Manuel Barroso, says Brussels will provide €50 million to assist the French-led mission.
"The end-result of that choreography is that French troops are now patrolling the streets of the CAR capital and are being praised by [UN chief] Ban Ki-moon and the Western media as 'saviors'," wrote Cunningham.
He added that France's "imperialism is back in force in Africa to plunder uranium and other precious minerals," noting that France is looting the African country's resources.
"France is fuelling violence to justify its return to the scene of its African crimes in order to renew and intensify its historical exploitation of that continent," Cunningham wrote.
The mission in the CAR is France's second military intervention in Africa in 2013. In January, Paris dispatched more than 4,000 troops to Mali, launching a fierce war against the militants in the country.
France currently has over 5,000 troops stationed at bases across the continent, costing Paris around 400 million euros (USD 540 million) per year.
"And, sadly, instead of being condemned, the French are being praised and getting the rest of the world to pay for their crimes," wrote Cunningham.

Memang sebelum ke Australia lagi gua dah tanam dalam kepala otak gua nak buat survey kehidupan social di Negara bukan Islam & buat perbandingan dengan Negara Islam Malaysia.
Pertama sekali gua ambik kesempatan masuk ke 7E & perkara pertama gua buat bila gua masuk 7E ialah tuju ke peti jualan minuman dalam 7E.
Hampir 10 biji kedai 7E gua masuk & apa yang gua tengok, ada perbezaan ketara dengan 7E di Malaysia di mana semua 7E x de jual minuman beralkohol & dekat kaunter x de jual kondom.
Gua sempat sembang dengan 2-3 orang cashier, kebanyakannya warganegara Malaysia yang bekerja di Australia.
Undang2 & praktikal yang baik. Di Melbourne, jualan minuman keras secara terbuka adalah DILARANG SAMA SEKALI. Jualan minuman keras hanya dibenarkan di Permis2 yang 100% menjual minuman keras & kalau ada pelanggan nak mentekedarah minuman keras, SAMASEKALI x boleh minum di tempat terbuka KECUALI di tempat2 yang dikhaskan.
Kedai2 yang jual minuman keras akan bungkus minuman keras yang dibeli pelanggan dengan begitu rapi sekali sampai korang x kan tahu apa yang ada dalam bungkusan kertas atau plastik.
Paper Beg atau Plastik pembungkus pun x de langsung logo Minuman Keras untuk tujuan pengiklanan.
1 perkara lagi gua perhati selama 2-3 hari gua di Bandar Melbourne, lepas waktu maghrib kalau kita pusing2 Bandar Melbourne, kita x kan dengar bunti dentum2 Pusat Hiburan, Bar atau Disco sebagaimana kalau kita berada di Kuala Lumpur atau Johor Bahru.
Korang x kan senang2 jumpa Pusat Hiburan atau Disco. Kebanyakannya berada dalam Permis bawah tanah atau tingkat atas Kedai tanpa Signboard2 besar bagai untuk pengiklanan.
Dekat sini gua rasa malu jadi rakyat Malaysia yang pemerintahnya mengaku Malaysia adalah Negara Islam. Sembang je beb...
Bandar Melbourne adalah Bandar hidup. Waktu siang sibuk dengan manusia yang bekerja & jugak Tourist, waktu malam sibuk dengan Tourist yang x de tempat penginapan merayau2 kesana kemari.
Tapi sepanjang masa tu, gua x jumpa couple2 yang beromen dekat lokasi awam.Berbeza dengan Malaysia. Sepanjang masa, sentiasa ada couple2 yang bermanja2 dekat mana2 x kira tempat.
Nak x nak, gua terpaksa bersetuju bahawa Australia lebih "Islamik" dari Negara Islam Malaysia.

Al-Nusra, ISIL terrorists clash in Syria's Raqqa
Heavy clashes have again flared up between elements of the al-Qaeda-linked al-Nusra Front and the insurgents allied with the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in the Syrian city of Raqqa.
The fighting broke out on Saturday between the two terrorist groups in the city located on the border of Syria and Turkey.
The development comes after al-Nusra militants shot and killed a Saudi ISIL terrorist in the city after he refused to stop at their checkpoint.
Further on Saturday, Al-Qaeda-linked militants in Syria seized a base belonging to the so-called Free Syrian Army (FSA), as infighting grows among foreign-backed militants in the Arab country.
Pro-Qaeda militants also seized arms that had been brought from Turkey.
Over the past year, thousands of foreign militants have poured into Syria to fight government forces.
Analysts from an arm of the British defense consultant IHS Jane's and from a nonprofit think tank in London estimate that over 15,000 foreign militants, including Americans and Europeans, are fighting against the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
In recent days, Western diplomats have warned that the issue of more than a thousand terrorists who have come from Europe to fight in Syria has turned into "a serious concern" for the countries they come from.
Last month, US Senator Thomas Carper confirmed during a Senate homeland security committee hearing that "American citizens as well as Canadian and European nationals have taken up arms in Syria, in Yemen and in Somalia."
The US and some of its allies, including Saudi Arabia, openly support the militancy in Syria.
More than 100,000 people have been killed since the beginning of the conflict in Syria in March 2011.The prolonged militancy has also forced millions of Syrians to flee their homes.
