Roli i përgjithshëm i gruas Pyetje: Ç'ndikim ka barazia ndërmjet burrit dhe gruas në definimin e roleve që ata pritet t'i luajnë në jetë? A mund të themi se gruaja dhe burri kanë role të ngjashme në jetë, duke u nisur nga fakti se ata të dy janë nga i njejti shpirt? Zoti i ka krijuar burrin dhe gruan, që ata së bashku ta ndërtojnë jetën dhe ta plotësojnë njëri-tjetrin gjatë këtij procesi. Islami, pra, ia hap gruas dyert e pjesëmarrjes në çdo lëmi të jetës krah për krah burrit, duke u kërkuar të dyve që ta ndihmojnë, ta përkrahin dhe ta plotësojnë njëri-tjetrin. Islami nuk i ndan burrat dhe gratë në detyrimet e tyre përballë shoqërisë, siç thotë qartë edhe vargu vijues kuranor: Besimtarët, burra e gra, janë mbrojtës të njëri-tjetrit. Ata e urdhërojnë të mirën dhe të ligën e pengojnë...(Kur'an 9:71) Kur të kuptojmë se drejtësia përfshin çdo gjë që është pozitive në jetë dhe se e liga i përmbledh në vete të gjitha negativitetet, do të shohim se gruaja dhe burri janë partnerë të njëri-tjetrit në procesin e ndërtimit të jetës. Dhe po aq sa janë përgjegjës burrat përballë shoqërisë, janë edhe gratë. Pra, në përjashtim të kornizave karakteristike të të qenit nënë ose baba, në të cilat të dy kanë funksione krejtësisht të ndryshme, burrat dhe gratë kanë lëmi të pafundme, në të cilat duhet ta ndërtojnë jetën njëri pranë tjetrit, si dy qenie njerëzore të barabarta në humanitetin e tyre. Po kështu, duhet të theksojmë se Islami ua ka hapur femrave rrugën e përjetimit të plotë të jetës, përkundër disave që mendojnë se ai i ka kufizuar femrat vetëm në karakteristikat e tyre femërore. Pyetje: Ku dominon roli femëror i gruas? Dhe ku, përkundër kësaj, mund të pasqyrohet roli i saj si qenie njerëzore? Sferat në të cilat një grua mund ta shprehë feminitetin e saj, janë relativisht të ngushta, sepse kufizohen me jetën martesore ku shpalosen karakteristikat e saja si femër dhe me mjediset e ndryshme femërore, ku asaj i lejohet t'i zbulojë tiparet e saja fizike. Kuptohet, këtu përfshihet edhe roli i saj si nënë, i cili është roli më i rëndësishëm që një femër e luan në jetën e saj. Megjithatë, të qenit nënë nuk është një rol me karakter pastër femëror por më tepër, një rol me tipare humane në jetën e një gruaje. Për të përmbledhur, pra, roli i një gruaje si një qenie njerëzore mbetet roli më jetik i saj në jetë. Në veprat e saja, femra duhet të konfirmojë se është një qenie e arsyes, e vullnetit dhe dhembshurisë dhe një person, i cili ka një detyrë për të kryer në jetë. Edhe femra, pra, duhet të vërtetojë se ka aftësi për të marrë pjesë në jetën shoqërore. Rrjedhimisht, humaniteti i një gruaje është aspekti më i rëndësishëm i personalitetit të saj, sepse pikërisht ky aspekt e simbolizon qëllimin, për të cilin Zotin e ka krijuar atë. Zoti e ka krijuar gruan që ajo të japë kontribut në ekzistencë me ato tipare që i posedon, njësoj siç e ka krijuar mashkullin me cilësi të caktuara, për të dhënë një kontribut të vetin. Andaj, edhe përkundër faktit se në një sferë të kufizuar, aspektet feminine (femërore) të gruas janë të dukshme, tiparet e saja njerëzore dhe humane janë ato që manifestohen në tërësinë e ekzistencës së saj si grua. Aspekti njerëzor i personalitetit të saj, s'do mend se do të integrohet në aspektet femërore, në jetën e saj bashkëshortore ose gjetiu. Dhe për më tepër, është pikërisht ky aspekt njerëzor në të, i cili do ta fisnikërojë sjelljen e një gruaje dhe do ta rrisë edhe më shumë spektrin e gjërave që ajo mund t'i falë bashkëshortit të saj. Me fjalë të tjera, aspekti njerëzor i një gruaje është faktori i cili i rafinon instinktet dhe i njerëzon ato në vepra dhe në ndjenja, në mënyrë që marrëdhënia martesore të mos jetë një lidhje, në të cilën gruaja i plotëson vetëm nevojat biologjike të një burri. Nëpërmjet këtij karakteri njerëzor, martesa do të jetë një marrëdhënie njerëzore, ku secila palë, qoftë femra ose mashkulli, do t'i shfrytëzojë tiparet e saja dalluese, për t'ia falur palës tjetër atë që i duhet më së shumti dhe për t'ia përmbushur nevojat emocionale, po aq sa ato fizike 2. Gruaja si shtëpiake Pyetje: Kur Islami, në ligjet e tija, i konfirmon karakteristikat specifike femërore të gruas, a s'na sjell kjo në përfundimin se roli natyror i gruas, sipas Islamit, është të qenit shtëpiake? Mendimi se Islami e detyron gruan të jetë shtëpiake është një mendim që dëgjohet shumë shpesh dhe pikërisht për këtë, vlen të diskutohet. Por para se të thellohemi në këtë çështje, duhet të theksojmë se në Islam ka dy lloje rregullash ligjore. Në njërën kategori janë urdhrat e detyrueshëm, të cilët e detyrojnë njeriun të bëjë ose të mos bëjë një gjë. Këto janë detyrimet (farz) dhe ndalesat (haram). Në kategorinë e dytë, rradhiten urdhrat të cilët e këshillojnë njeriun të veprojë në një mënyrë të caktuar por nuk e detyrojnë atë. Ose krejt e kundërta, e këshillojnë që të mos e bëjë një gjë por nuk e ndalojnë atë. Këto janë gjërat që njihen si veprat e këshillueshme (mustehap) dhe veprat e papëlqyeshme (mekruh). Këto janë urdhrat, të cilat i mundësojnë personit të vendosë vetë në do ta bëjë një gjë ose jo. Dhe tani, a e detyron Islami femrën të jetë një shtëpiake, përpara ose pas martesës? Sipas Islamit, as babai, as nëna, as vëllai dhe as ndonjë i afërm tjetër nuk mund ta detyrojë një vajzë të merret me punët e shtëpisë. Nëna dhe babai nuk kanë të drejtë ta detyrojnë vajzën e tyre të merret me punët e shtëpisë, njësoj siç nuk kanë të drejtë ta obligojnë djalin e tyre për të njejtën. S'do mend se një vajzë mund t'i marrë përsipër punët e shtëpisë, derisa ajo e vendos vetë një gjë të tillë si pasojë e përgjegjësisë që ndjen ndaj familjes, e cila e rrit dhe e ushqen. Po kështu, edhe kur një femër të bëhet bashkëshorte, pyetja në do të merret me punët e shtëpisë ose jo, është sërish diçka që i mbetet vendimit dhe vullnetit të saj. Marrëveshja e martesës, parë në aspektin ligjor, nuk e detyron gruan të merret me punët e shtëpisë dhe për më tepër, nuk e detyron as të kujdeset për fëmijët e saj, përveç në rastet kur të dyja palët e vendosin një nen të tillë në marrëveshjen e tyre paramartesore. Vetë Islami nuk e konsideron detyrimin për t'i bërë punët e shtëpisë si një pjesë të domosdoshme të marrëveshjes së martesës. Përveç kësaj, Islami nuk e obligon gruan të merret me ndonjë punë jashtë shtëpisë për ta mbajtur familjen ose për të dhënë një kontribut financiar në këtë gjë. Duke u mbështetur në marrëveshjen martesore islame, gruaja s'ka një obligim tjetër ndaj burrit të saj përveç marrëdhënies seksuale dhe gjithçkaje që është e lidhur me të. Gjërat e tjera, siç janë punët e shtëpisë dhe rritja e fëmijëve, nuk mund t'i imponohen një gruaje. Nga kjo perspektivë, marrja e gruas me punët e shtëpisë konsiderohet një kontribut tejet fisnik (dhe vullnetar) i gruas, si reagim ndaj një kontributi fisnik të burrit në jetesën e tyre të përbashkët. Pyetje: Por kur themi se gruaja nuk është e detyruar të merret me punët e shtëpisë dhe nuk është e detyruar të punojë jashtë, a nuk nënkuptojmë në një mënyrë ose një tjetër, se ajo ka një rol margjinal në jetë ose së paku, a nuk i japim kurajo gruas që të mbetet në margjinat e jetës shoqërore? Të thuash se gruaja nuk është e detyruar të merret me punët e shtëpisë ose të punojë jashtë për të fituar para, nuk do të thotë se ajo nuk duhet të bëjë asgjë në jetë. Çështja thelbësore që duhet të kuptohet në gjithë këtë, është fakti se Islami dëshiron që gratë të merren me punët e shtëpisë duke u prirë nga vullneti dhe nga mirëkuptimi e jo si pasojë e detyrimit, si të ishte një shërbim social. Kur Islami e hoqi prej grave detyrimin për t'u marrë me punët e shtëpisë, ai ua dha atyre mundësinë për të marrë pjesë në ndërtimin e shoqërisë ku jetojnë. Nga këndvështrimi islam, gratë janë po aq përgjegjëse sa burrat për t'u ndihmuar njerëzve që ta gjejnë rrugën drejt Zotit dhe për ta udhëzuar shoqërinë në rrugë të drejtë. Dhe siç kemi përmendur edhe më sipër, edhe gratë, njësoj si burrat, janë detyruar që ta urdhërojnë të mirën dhe ta pengojnë të ligën, që është në thelb edhe vetë aspekti praktik i kujdesit kundër devijimit të mundshëm në çdo sferë të shoqërisë. Ky është një rol, i cili në raste të caktuara, mund ta arrijë edhe pikën e revoltës së hapur publike kundër padrejtësisë dhe devijimit. Dhe të thuash se gruaja nuk është e detyruar të ketë një karrierë jashtë shtëpisë së saj për të siguruar mbijetesë (duke e patur parasysh detyrimin për ta urdhëruar të mirën dhe penguar të ligën), s'do të thotë assesi se roli i saj në jetë anulohet. Përkundrazi, kjo nënkupton se asaj i sigurohet një spektër i gjerë mundësish, duke siguruar që roli i saj si nënë ose si shtëpiake, kontributi i saj në sigurimin e të ardhurave për familjen dhe madje sigurimi i vetë mbijetesës së saj, të mos e pengojnë fuqinë që ka për të dhënë kontribut në punët shoqërore. Duke ua lehtësuar grave vështirësitë e jetës familjare dhe madje të jetës martesore, Islami, në të vërtetë, vetëm sa e njeh rolin e gruas në ndërtimin e jetës dhe në praktikë, i ofron asaj një mundësi për të marrë pjesë në të gjithë proceset e ndërtimit të shoqërisë. 3. Gruaja ndërmjet martesës dhe detyrës si nënë Pyetje:Edhe përkundër theksit që ju vini mbi prioritetin e rolit të gruas si një qenie njerëzore në jetë, ky prioritet mohohet në çastin që përballemi me vlerën e madhe që Islami ia jep rolit të gruas si bashkëshorte dhe si nënë, gjë që e detyron atë të mbetet në shtëpi për t'u kujdesur për fëmijët e saj dhe për t'i përmbushur nevojat e të shoqit. Sipas Islamit, a janë vetëm gratë të ngarkuara me detyrimin e rritjes së fëmijës? Dhe a janë ato të detyruara të jenë gjithnjë pranë fëmijëve të tyre? Në fillim duhet sqaruar është se ndonse Islami e thekson rolin e gruas si nënë dhe si bashkëshorte, po t'i shohim ligjet, do të vërejmë se është babai, ai që është ngarkuar me kujdesin për familjen dhe për fëmijën në veçanti. Sërish, e drejta për t'u kujdesur për fëmijën në raste divorci i jepet babait... Babai dhe nëna janë partnerë të vërtetë në procesin e rritjes së një fëmije dhe ndonse Islami e konsideron të shënjte rolin e nënës, ai nuk e ka bërë këtë gjë një detyrim për gruan. Përveç qëllimeve emocionale të mëmësisë dhe atësisë, burri dhe gruaja e marrin përsipër kujdesin e fëmijës si një proces ku duhet ta plotësojnë njëri-tjetrin. Në këtë detyrë, natyra karakteristike e secilit prind, e nënës si femër dhe e babait si mashkull, bashkë me atë lidhje emocionale që e lidh fëmijën me secilin prej tyre, ka një rol të veçantë në zhvillimin dhe pasurimin e personalitetit të fëmijës në çdo dimension. Ndërkohë që nëna i fal fëmijës një ndjesi të brendshme sigurie, duke i plotësuar nevojat fizike dhe emocionale të tij, babai, duke e kujdesur për punët e jashtme, e merr përsipër detyrimin për t'i falur fëmijës një ndjesi të thellë mbrojtjeje dhe fuqie, nëpërmjet të cilës ai duhet të përballet me botën e jashtme. Ky është vetëm një ilustrim i thjeshtë i bashkëveprimit të burrit dhe gruas në procesin e rritjes së një fëmije. Vetëkuptohet se është shumë me rëndësi që nëna të kujdeset për fëmijën e saj. Megjithatë, asgjë nuk e detyron gruan që të jetë gjithë kohës me fëmijën ose me të shoqin, përderisa ky i fundit nuk ka një nevojë të jashtëzakonshme për të. Here it is:It is with extreme astonishment and sadness that we have to inform you that the University of Southampton has told us earlier yesterday (Monday 30 March 2015) that it intends to withdraw its permission to hold the academic conference on International Law and the State of Israel. We were told that the decision was taken on the grounds of health and safety: a number of groups may be demonstrating for or against the conference which could present risks to the safety of the participants, students and staff. The University claims that it does not have enough resources to mitigate the risks, despite a clear statement from the Police confirming that they are able to deal with the protest and ensure the security of the event. As the law stands, the University is legally obliged to uphold freedom of speech, and - unlike in some engineering projects for example where health and safety may be the only legal obligation – the requirement of minimising risk should also fall onto the Police as the agency that is entrusted with the enforcement of the law (freedom of speech) and the provision of security. The mitigating measure should therefore include policing in addition to what the university can reasonably provide using its own security resources. We are therefore extremely dissatisfied with the risk assessment conducted by the University which seems to lack consistency; high risks remained high even when seemingly effective mitigating measures were put in place. Crucially and additionally, the risk assessment does not seem to include all possible risk mitigating measures that could be provided by the police. A number of risks have been identified by the police but it is very clear from the Police's report that they are more than capable of policing the conference and ensuring the safety of university staff, speakers, delegates, students and property. However, instead of accepting this at face value the University decided to focus on the risks identified by the Police and ignore their statement about their ability to police the event – we were told the Police will never say in writing they are not able to police an event, in other words the University had doubts about the Police's ability to do their job of upholding the law! The university claims that the Police are not able or unwilling to become too involved because the University is 'private property', which we find astonishing. The University is a public space, it was established by a Royal Charter and it has public roles and duties including upholding freedom of speech and to that extent it should be able to resort to police assistance in order to curb security risks to enable it to fulfil its legal obligation to uphold freedom of speech. If this is not done, if commitment to safety is not undertaken by the police, freedom of speech becomes an idle worthless notion. At no point were we given an indication that the University has indeed allowed itself the time to seek viable police assistance to supplement its own resources. Additionally, and unconvincingly, the University claims that it is now too late to put proper security arrangements in place. We do not accept that in any way as there are still 18 days left before the conference. Given the Police's confidence in providing security and given that there are other possible mitigating measures that are yet to be explored that could be put in place to minimize the risk, a decision to cancel the conference would be grossly disproportionate and therefore may well be illegal and unconstitutional. Such an action by Southampton University will severely undermine the public's confidence in the Police's and the in the University's ability to protect freedom of speech. Indeed it will have wider implications to all Universities and organisations. We feel that the manner the university communicated with the police and conducted the risk assessment shows that the security argument was used to rationalise a decision to cancel the conference that has been taken under public pressure of the Israeli Lobby. It is quite simply unbelievable that the University cannot ask the Police to handle the risk of demonstrations.Freedom of speech inherently involves taking risks, and hence the presence of risk cannot be used to curtail it! The UK Government and many other governments have refused to give in to attempts by Islamic extremist to stop the publication of pictures of Prophet Mohammad despite serious risks of violence. The correct response by the governments was to confront and contain that violence and not to cancel the publication of these pictures by Charlie Hebdo and others.This is a sad decision for freedom of speech and for historic Palestine (which includes what is now the Jewish State of Israel and the 1967 Occupied Territories) and ALL the people who live there. We will explore legal emergency measures to prevent the University from cancelling the conference, to reverse its decision and to properly collaborate with the police so that the demonstrations can be managed. In addition we call for the widest and most intense public campaign possible that would urgently encourage the university to reverse its decision and which would allow the conference to go ahead. Finally, we must make it clear that we have made several attempts to meet with the Vice Chancellor to consult him on the organisation of this conference, and to invite him to open the conference but we have never been given the opportunity to do so. On the other hand, the Vice Chancellor has met with pro-Israel representatives without ever calling us to attend meetings and we, as Professors in the University, feel disempowered and marginalised by this disrespectful behaviour. Ein Blick auf die Psyche des Menschen zeigt, dass er sich sehr detailliert mit vielen verschiedenen Angelegenheiten beschäftigt, die ihn interessieren oder seinem Nutzen entsprechen. So sehen wir, dass das Interessenspektrum der Menschen ein breites Feld abdeckt. Manche von ihnen haben ihr Leben dem Sport gewidmet und verfolgen beispielsweise fanatisch die gesamte Welt des Fußballs, etwa die aktuellen Transfers oder die neuesten Nachrichten über das Privatleben einiger Spieler. Andere bevorzugen es, ihre gesamte Zeit in die Unterhaltungsbranche zu investieren und möglichst jeden aktuellen Popsänger oder Film zu kennen. Wiederum andere haben es sich zum Sinn ihres Lebens gemacht, die schulische Ausbildung oder das Studium um jeden Preis erfolgreich abzuschließen, um dann letztendlich die Karrieretreppe zu erklimmen, ein wohlhabendes, „glückerfülltes" Leben zu führen und alle Bedürfnisse, Neigungen und Wünsche auf höchstem Niveau befriedigen zu können. So geschieht es, dass essentielle Fragen für den Menschen, wie die Thematik über den Tod – vor allem im Westen – völlig verdrängt und tabuisiert werden. Doch es ist vollkommen irrational, gerade dieses Thema in den Hinterhof des Bewusstseins zu verlagern, denn gerade der Tod ist es, der definitiv eintreffen wird, und zwar ausnahmslos bei jedem Menschen, unabhängig von Rasse, Kultur oder Religion. Die meisten Menschen verdrängen den Tod aufgrund der Angst und Unsicherheit vor dem Ungewissen. Sie haben Angst, sich das „Danach" vorzustellen und Angst davor, dieses Leben zu verlassen. Die Verdrängung des Todes - mithilfe der Unterhaltungsmaschinerie - ist ein prägnantes Merkmal westlicher Gesellschaften. Der Mensch im Westen baut sich mittels Film-, Musik- und Sportindustrie eine imaginäre Welt auf, um der Realität und um letztendlich dem Gedanken des Todes zu entkommen. Fest steht aber auch, dass sich jeder in letzter Konsequenz dem Tod stellen muss. Ein Tag, an dem das Herz aufhört zu schlagen, das Gehirn aufhört zu arbeiten und das Licht, das uns umgibt, erlischt. Jetzt stellt sich die berechtigte Frage: Ist das das endgültige, das absolute Ende? Die Antwort auf diese Frage sollte den Muslim unter keinen Umständen auch nur eine Sekunde zum Überlegen veranlassen. Allah (s.w.t.) informiert die Muslime in unzähligen Ayat, dass es ein Leben nach dem Tod geben wird. Das eigentliche, dauerhafte Leben und die damit verbundene Glückseligkeit des Paradieses oder die immensen Qualen der Hölle finden erst nach dem Tod ihren Anfang. Ebenso wird das Thema „Jenseits" ausführlich in den Ahadith des ehrwürdigen Gesandten Allahs (s.a.s.) behandelt. Der Muslim soll aufgrund der ständigen Wiederholung dieser Thematik in Qur'an und Sunna darüber reflektieren und ein Bewusstsein entwickeln, dass ihn dazu bringt, sein Dasein im Diesseits stets mit dem Jenseits zu verknüpfen, um das eigentliche Ziel niemals aus den Augen zu verlieren. So sagt der Prophet (s.a.s): „Scharfsinnig ist derjenige, der sich selbst unter Kontrolle hält und für das Jenseits arbeitet, und schwachsinnig ist derjenige, der Sklave seiner Begierden ist und von Allah nur die Erfüllung seiner Wünsche erbittet." (Tirmidhi) Dieses Bewusstsein führt den Muslim dazu, unaufhörlich für sein Jenseits zu arbeiten und keine Mühe und Schwierigkeit zu scheuen, um Allahs Grenzen einzuhalten und seinem Din zum Sieg zu verhelfen. Er wird sich dessen bewusst sein, dass er nur diese eine Gelegenheit hat, die ewige Glückseligkeit zu erlangen. Dieser Gedanke wird sein gesamtes Leben dominieren und ihn zu einer einzigartigen und prägnanten islamischen Persönlichkeit reifen lassen. Ein beeindruckendes Beispiel für die Verinnerlichung dieser tiefgründigen Konzeption liefert ein Gefährte des Gesandten Allahs (s.a.s.). Al-Rabbe' ibn Khaytham (r.a.) hatte in seinem Haus ein Grab ausgehoben. Sobald er merkte, dass sein Herz „hart" zu werden und das Diesseits ihn abzulenken drohte, legte er sich hinein mit den Worten: „Mein Herr, schicke mich zurück (ins Leben), damit ich rechtschaffene Taten in den Sachen vollbringen kann, die ich vernachlässigt habe." Er rief sich die folgende Aya in den Sinn: „Wenn dann der Tod zu einem von ihnen kommt, sagt er: "Mein Herr, bring mich zurück, damit ich dann rechtschaffen handele in dem, was ich hinterlassen habe." Keineswegs! Es ist nur ein Wort, das er sagt; hinter ihnen wird ein trennendes Hindernis bis zu dem Tag sein, an dem sie auferweckt werden" (Sura 23, Ayat 99-100) Der Tod und das Jenseits dürfen keine zeitliche begrenzte Rolle im Leben eines Muslims einnehmen und nicht erst Erwähnung finden, wenn eine Person aus dem näheren Umfeld gestorben ist. Solange der Muslim lebt, ist es für ihn unerlässlich, dass er seine Fehler korrigiert, sich an die islamischen Pflichten hält und sich vom Haram fernhält. Ein derart bewusster Muslim wird stets bereit sein, seinen Herren anzutreffen und Rechenschaft abzulegen. Der Tod wird ihn nicht überraschen, auch wenn er plötzlich eintreten sollte. Wenn einem Muslim solch ein Verständnis innewohnt, wird er sich nicht mit seinen guten Taten zufrieden geben, sondern stets danach trachten, seinen Rang bei Allah (s.w.t.) zu erhöhen und sich bemühen, den Ablenkungen des Diesseits zu entkommen. So wurde der Prophet (s.a.s.) gefragt, wer der Enthaltsamste unter den Menschen sei, und er antwortete: „Derjenige, der das Grab nicht vergisst, die Genüsslichkeiten des Diesseits meidet, der nach dem ewigen Paradies trachtet und nicht nach dem begrenzten Diesseits, der den gestrigen Tag nicht für sich anrechnet und der sich selbst unter den Leuten des Grabes sieht." Es ist leicht, den Tod zu verdrängen und zu denken, man habe noch ein langes Leben vor sich. Der Todesengel vergisst jedoch niemanden, wenn die Lebensfrist abgelaufen ist - sei er alt oder jung! On the Day of Judgement no one is able to intercede on behalf of anyone else. Each person stands alone before God and it is God Alone who will question His servants and judge them. Good #deeds will be taken into account and often multiplied. In accordance with the principle that a bad deed belongs only to those who committed it, a person will be punished only for a bad deed that he has performed, not one that involuntarily came to mind. Prophet Muhammad, may the #mercy and blessings of God be upon him, said, "God has pardoned my Ummah for what they say to themselves, as long as they do not utter it or act on it." [Saheeh Muslim, Saheeh Bukhari, Ahmad, An-Nasa'ie] He also told us that: "God said (to His angels), 'If My servant intends to commit an evil deed, do not record it as such for him, and if he commits it, write it for him as one evil deed. If he intends to perform a good deed, but did not perform it, then write it for him as one good deed, and if he performs it, write it for him as ten good deeds.'" [Saheeh Muslim, Saheeh Al-Bukhari] Next God explains to the believers how to supplicate and ask for forgiveness and mercy. The opening chapter of the Quran was a lesson in how to praise and ask for guidance; this is a lesson in the best way to beseech God. Essentially it is an earnest plea from the believers and a prayer or supplication that defines the believer's relationship with God. It implies human weakness and need for mercy and forgiveness from God. Do not take us to task if we do wrong or forget. Error and forgetfulness are two defining traits of human behaviour. However a believer always seeks God's help and always turns to him in repentance. Subsequently the #believers plead with God saying please do not place on us a burden like those placed on the people before us. This is a plea by the weak to the All-Powerful. A conscientious believer does not want to fail, he wants to do well and please God, thus he is asking please don't place on us a burden that is difficult to bear. In the past people carried burdens that were too demanding and therefore contributed to them failing in their duty to their Lord. Strict laws were placed on previous nations such as the children of Israel and this entire chapter has outlined various episodes in their history. With this in mind we find an impassioned plea for ease and laws that are easy to follow and fulfil. Pardon us, forgive us and have mercy on us. This sentence encapsulates the only real guarantee of success in this life and admittance to Paradise; the mercy of God. No matter how hard a person strives, he will achieve nothing of consequence unless God bestows His mercy upon him. Aisha, the beloved wife of Prophet Muhammad conveyed to us that the Prophet said that none would attain Paradise by virtue of their deeds alone. She is reported to have asked him, "Not even you?" and he replied, "Not even me, unless God bestows His mercy upon me".[Saheeh Al-Bukhari] You are our Protector means that You are our supporter and helper. The believers say that You are sought for every type of help, You are the only One on which we truly rely. There is no power or strength except from and through You oh Lord. The final line pleads for victory over the disbelieving people. This means those who reject the message, refuse to accept the religion offered to them and those who deny the Oneness of God. This is a statement that asserts the believers to put their full trust in God who is able to do all things and defend the True Religion against its foes. In more than one narration from the traditions [Saheeh Muslim] of Prophet Muhammad it is recorded that God replied to this supplication with the words, 'I will' and in another narration it is said that God answered 'I did'. This long chapter that covers many rules and regulations finishes by detailing a believer's obligations in this life whilst emphasising that God knows His creation well and considers the weaknesses and shortcomings of humankind. It asserts that God will not overburden the believers. In conclusion these final verses are a concise summary of the themes of the chapter and also a summary of the central characteristics of the faith of a believer.
