 abu adam - Social Mention: @=Tipudaya Iblis dan Setan=@ Posted by abu utsman بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم Oleh: Ustadz Abu Adib Ibnul Qoyyim Al-Jauziyyah –rahimahullah- berkata dalam risalah beliau yang berjudul "Ighatsatul Lahfaan", bahwasanya Allah mengkhabarkan tentang musuh-Nya (yaitu) Iblis -la'natullah-, ketika Allah menanyainya tentang enggannya Iblis untuk sujud kepada Adam -'alaihissalaam- dengan alasan bahwa Iblis merasa lebih baik dan mulia dari pada Adam -'alaihissalaam-. Yang kemudian Allah mengeluarkannya dari surga. Maka Iblis berkata : "Ya Allah, beri tangguhlah saya sampai hari kiamat", maka Allah mengabulkannya. Berkatalah musuh Allah dalam surat Al-A'raf ayat 16-17, yang artinya : "Karena Engkau telah menghukumi kami sesat, maka sungguh aku akan mengalangi manusia dari jalan-Mu yang lurus. Kemudian akan aku datangi dari arah depan mereka dan dari belakang mereka, dari kanan dan dari kiri mereka. Dan Engkau tidak akan mendapati kebanyakan dari mereka bersyukur (taat)". Didalam ayat tersebut sangatlah jelas memberikan pengertian kepada kita, betapa semangatnya Iblis untuk menghalangi manusia dari jalan Allah yang lurus. Empat cara akan ditempuh Iblis untuk menghalangi manusia dari shirathal mustaqim. Terjadi silang pendapat di kalangan para 'Ulama tentang arti shiraathal mustaqim. 'Abdullah Ibnu 'Abbas menyatakan bahwa shirathal mustaqim adalah dienul haq (agama yang benar). Sedangkan 'Abdullah Ibnu Mas'ud menyatakan bahwa shirathal mustaqim adalah kitabullah (Al-Qur'an). Jabir bin 'Abdullah menyatakan bahwa artinya adalah Al-Islam. Dan Mujahid d menyatakan artinya adalah Al-Haq. Ibnul Qayyim lebih jauh berkata bahwa dari pendapat-pendapat para shahabat di atas tentang makna shirathal mustaqim adalah hampir sama. Yaitu, jalan yang mengantarkan kepada Allah Ta'ala. Itulah makna shirathal mustaqim. Jalan inilah yang ingin diputus oleh Iblis la'natullah, yang dalam surat Al-A'raf Iblis berkata akan menempuh 4 cara untuk memutusnya. Langkah pertama, Iblis akan mendatangi dari arah depan. Berkata Hasan Al-Bashri ; "Maksudnya adalah dari sisi akheratnya". Yakni, Iblis akan mengilhamkan kepada bani Adam agar bani Adam ragu dengan hari kebangkitan, ragu dengan surga, ragu dengan neraka, dan ragu dengan perkara-perkara akherat lainnya. Dan sulit kita gambarkan kerusakan yang akan terjadi kalau sampai misi ini berhasil. Langkah kedua, Iblis akan mendatangi bani Adam dari arah belakang mereka. Berkata 'Abdullah Ibnu 'Abbas : "Maksudnya adalah aku akan jadikan bani Adam itu agar sangat mencintai dengan dunia mereka". Langkah ini hampir sama dengan langkah yang pertama. Kejelekan yang akan terjadi kalau bani Adam sudah ragu dengan akheratnya tentu mereka akan meninggalkan urusan akheratnya. Begitu pula kalau bani Adam sangat cinta dengan dunia, maka mereka pun meninggalkan urusan akheratnya. Langkah ketiga, Iblis akan mendatangi Bani Adam dari arah kanan mereka. Berkata 'Abdullah ibnu Mas'ud bahwa maksudnya adalah Iblis akan samarkan urusan agama mereka. Maksudnya, Iblis akan menjadikan agar bani Adam ragu terhadap kebenaran, ragu terhadap Al-Qur'an, ragu terhadap kerasulan Muhammad -shalallahu 'alaihi wassalam-, dan lain-lain. Lebih jauh lagi, Ibnu 'Abbas d mengatakan bahwa Iblis akan mendatangi dari arah kanan maksudnya adalah dari kebaikan-kebaikannya. Iblis akan membuat ragu dari amal kebaikan-kebaikannya. Dan langkah yang keempat, Iblis akan datangi bani Adam dari kiri mereka. Berkata Al-Hasan Al-Bashri : "maksudnya adalah Iblis akan datang dari sisi kejelekan-kejelekannya". Iblis akan memerintahkan manusia untuk melakukan kejelekan, dan Iblis akan menghias-hiasi kejelekan-kejelekan ini agar nampak indah di mata manusia. Sehingga manusia mencintai kejelekan yang mereka lakukan, bahkan mereka bangga dengan kejelekan tersebut. Para pembaca yang mulia, jika kita perhatikan dengan seksama dari 4 langkah iblis di atas, maka akan nampak sekali bahwa Iblis akan mudah sekali memperdaya manusia, jika tidak berhati-hati dan berbekal ilmu (agama) yang shahih (benar). Di jelaskan oleh 'Abdullah ibnu 'Abbas kenapa syaithan tidak menyatakan "Aku akan datangi bani Adam dari atas mereka". Karena, syaithan mengetahui bahwa Allah ada di atas mereka. Hal ini menunjukkan pengertian bahwa ketika Allah ingin menurunkan Rahmat-Nya kepada hamba-hamba-Nya, maka tidak ada satu makhluk pun yang mampu untuk menghalangi Rahmat tersebut. Oleh karena itu, hendaknya setiap manusia untuk selalu meminta Rahmat kepada Allah Ta'ala. Demikianlah pembaca yang budiman, semoga risalah ini bermanfaat. PUTIN Published: September 11, 2013 NYTimes MOSCOW — RECENT events surrounding Syria have prompted me to speak directly to the American people and their political leaders. It is important to do so at a time of insufficient communication between our societies. Relations between us have passed through different stages. We stood against each other during the cold war. But we were also allies once, and defeated the Nazis together. The universal international organization — the United Nations — was then established to prevent such devastation from ever happening again. The United Nations' founders understood that decisions affecting war and peace should happen only by consensus, and with America's consent the veto by Security Council permanent members was enshrined in the United Nations Charter. The profound wisdom of this has underpinned the stability of international relations for decades. No one wants the United Nations to suffer the fate of the League of Nations, which collapsed because it lacked real leverage. This is possible if influential countries bypass the United Nations and take military action without Security Council authorization. The potential strike by the United States against Syria, despite strong opposition from many countries and major political and religious leaders, including the pope, will result in more innocent victims and escalation, potentially spreading the conflict far beyond Syria's borders. A strike would increase violence and unleash a new wave of terrorism. It could undermine multilateral efforts to resolve the Iranian nuclear problem and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and further destabilize the Middle East and North Africa. It could throw the entire system of international law and order out of balance. Syria is not witnessing a battle for democracy, but an armed conflict between government and opposition in a multireligious country. There are few champions of democracy in Syria. But there are more than enough Qaeda fighters and extremists of all stripes battling the government. The United States State Department has designated Al Nusra Front and the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, fighting with the opposition, as terrorist organizations. This internal conflict, fueled by foreign weapons supplied to the opposition, is one of the bloodiest in the world. Mercenaries from Arab countries fighting there, and hundreds of militants from Western countries and even Russia, are an issue of our deep concern. Might they not return to our countries with experience acquired in Syria? After all, after fighting in Libya, extremists moved on to Mali. This threatens us all. From the outset, Russia has advocated peaceful dialogue enabling Syrians to develop a compromise plan for their own future. We are not protecting the Syrian government, but international law. We need to use the United Nations Security Council and believe that preserving law and order in today's complex and turbulent world is one of the few ways to keep international relations from sliding into chaos. The law is still the law, and we must follow it whether we like it or not. Under current international law, force is permitted only in self-defense or by the decision of the Security Council. Anything else is unacceptable under the United Nations Charter and would constitute an act of aggression. No one doubts that poison gas was used in Syria. But there is every reason to believe it was used not by the Syrian Army, but by opposition forces, to provoke intervention by their powerful foreign patrons, who would be siding with the fundamentalists. Reports that militants are preparing another attack — this time against Israel — cannot be ignored. It is alarming that military intervention in internal conflicts in foreign countries has become commonplace for the United States. Is it in America's long-term interest? I doubt it. Millions around the world increasingly see America not as a model of democracy but as relying solely on brute force, cobbling coalitions together under the slogan "you're either with us or against us." But force has proved ineffective and pointless. Afghanistan is reeling, and no one can say what will happen after international forces withdraw. Libya is divided into tribes and clans. In Iraq the civil war continues, with dozens killed each day. In the United States, many draw an analogy between Iraq and Syria, and ask why their government would want to repeat recent mistakes. No matter how targeted the strikes or how sophisticated the weapons, civilian casualties are inevitable, including the elderly and children, whom the strikes are meant to protect. The world reacts by asking: if you cannot count on international law, then you must find other ways to ensure your security. Thus a growing number of countries seek to acquire weapons of mass destruction. This is logical: if you have the bomb, no one will touch you. We are left with talk of the need to strengthen nonproliferation, when in reality this is being eroded. We must stop using the language of force and return to the path of civilized diplomatic and political settlement. A new opportunity to avoid military action has emerged in the past few days. The United States, Russia and all members of the international community must take advantage of the Syrian government's willingness to place its chemical arsenal under international control for subsequent destruction. I carefully studied his address to the nation on Tuesday. And I would rather disagree with a case he made on American exceptionalism, stating that the United States' policy is "what makes America different. It's what makes us exceptional." It is extremely dangerous to encourage people to see themselves as exceptional, whatever the motivation. There are big countries and small countries, rich and poor, those with long democratic traditions and those still finding their way to democracy. Their policies differ, too. It is important to do so at a time of insufficient communication between our societies. Relations between us have passed through different stages. We stood against each other during the cold war. But we were also allies once, and defeated the Nazis together. The universal international organization — the United Nations — was then established to prevent such devastation from ever happening again. The United Nations' founders understood that decisions affecting war and peace should happen only by consensus, and with America's consent the veto by Security Council permanent members was enshrined in the United Nations Charter. The profound wisdom of this has underpinned the stability of international relations for decades. No one wants the United Nations to suffer the fate of the League of Nations, which collapsed because it lacked real leverage. This is possible if influential countries bypass the United Nations and take military action without Security Council authorization. The potential strike by the United States against Syria, despite strong opposition from many countries and major political and religious leaders, including the pope, will result in more innocent victims and escalation, potentially spreading the conflict far beyond Syria's borders. A strike would increase violence and unleash a new wave of terrorism. It could undermine multilateral efforts to resolve the Iranian nuclear problem and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and further destabilize the Middle East and North Africa. It could throw the entire system of international law and order out of balance. Syria is not witnessing a battle for democracy, but an armed conflict between government and opposition in a multireligious country. There are few champions of democracy in Syria. Reports that militants are preparing another attack — this time against Israel — cannot be ignored. It is alarming that military intervention in internal conflicts in foreign countries has become commonplace for the United States. Is it in America's long-term interest? I doubt it. Millions around the world increasingly see America not as a model of democracy but as relying solely on brute force, cobbling coalitions together under the slogan "you're either with us or against us." But force has proved ineffective and pointless. Afghanistan is reeling, and no one can say what will happen after international forces withdraw. Libya is divided into tribes and clans. In Iraq the civil war continues, with dozens killed each day. In the United States, many draw an analogy between Iraq and Syria, and ask why their government would want to repeat recent mistakes. No matter how targeted the strikes or how sophisticated the weapons, civilian casualties are inevitable, including the elderly and children, whom the strikes are meant to protect. The world reacts by asking: if you cannot count on international law, then you must find other ways to ensure your security. Thus a growing number of countries seek to acquire weapons of mass destruction. This is logical: if you have the bomb, no one will touch you. We are left with talk of the need to strengthen nonproliferation, when in reality this is being eroded. Surat ini merupakan wujud harapan besar kami kepada komitmen dan kesungguhan Bapak sebagai Kepala Pemerintahan dan Kepala Negara untuk menjalankan amanat Undang-Undang Dasar Negara Republik Indonesia 1945 dan menegakkan hukum dan keadilan yang beberapa hari lalu terkoyak oleh kegelapan "atas nama agama". Bapak Presiden yang kami hormati Pada 26 Agustus itu, terjadi penyerbuan terencana atas kediaman sekitar 600 orang warga Syiah yang menetap di tiga dusun di Desa Karanggayam, Kecamatan Omben, Kabupaten Sampang, Madura. Berbagai laporan saksi yang kami peroleh mengabarkan kawanan penyerbu maju dengan clurit, parang, dan bom molotov. Tak ada yang bisa membendung. Polisi Sampang, meski telah mendengar rencana penyerangan itu, kalah dalam jumlah. Cerita selebihnya adalah fakta getir: dalam hitungan jam, keberingasan kawanan itu menewaskan satu orang, melukai belasan orang lainnya. Beberapa di antara korban luka masih terbaring kritis di rumah sakit hingga kini. Laporan dari lapangan juga menyebutkan kalau kawanan penyerang membakar puluhan rumah warga Syiah dan menjarah habis isinya – termasuk ternak sapi yang menjadi andalan kehidupan warga yang umumnya petani. Sementara itu, hingga hari ini, Polisi dan TNI masih bekerja keras mengevakuasi ratusan warga yang terpaksa bersembunyi di hutan-hutan seputaran desa dengan bekal seadanya karena ketakutan. Bapak Presiden yang kami hormati Muslim Syiah sudah lama menjadi bagian dari kehidupan sederhana dan bersahaja orang-orang di Sampang. Eskalasi kebencian dan penyerangan terhadap warga Syiah mulai menyeruak selepas munculnya fatwa sesat atas Syiah oleh Majelis Ulama Indonesia Jatimpada 2007. Ini diperparah oleh segelintir mubalig yang menyalakan api kebencian atas warga Syiah. Mereka bahkan menyebut darah orang Syiah halal. Sayangnya, hukum tak pernah menyentuh para penghasut dan penyebar kebencian itu. Padahal, jelas-jelas tindakan mereka melukai Pancasila, menista Undang-Undang Dasar, dan melecehkan peraturan perundang-undangan. Bapak Presiden yang kami hormati Kami ingin Bapak menaruh perhatian besar kepada fatwa tersebut, yang telah melahirkan kebencian atas nama agama. Apalagi fatwa MUI Jatimitu sangat janggal dari sisi manapun. MUI Pusat tak pernah mengeluarkan fatwa sesat atas Syiah. Kementerian Agama pun tak pernah memproses Syiah dalam sebuah Surat Keputusan Bersama sebagaimana diatur dalam peraturan perundang-undangan. Di Sampang pada Desember 2011, fatwa sesat dan provokasi anti-Syiah menemukan bentuk awalnya: teror dan pembakaran pesantren dan rumah warga Syiah pada 26 Desember 2011. Jika ini saja sudah memilukan, lebih gelap fakta bahwa lepas kejadian itu, justru korban teror dan kekerasan, dalam hal ini Ustad Tajul Muluk, pemimpin warga Syiah di Sampang, dimejahijaukan oleh Polisi di Sampang. Pengadilan Negeri Sampang kemudian menjatuhkan hukuman dua tahun penjara kepada Ustad Tajul. Hakim berkesimpulan Ustad Tajul mendakwahkan Al-Quran palsu. Kami menilai putusan itu tidak adil karena hingga persidangan berakhir tak pernah ada bukti Ustad Tajul memiliki Al-Quran palsu sebagaimana dituduhkan. Belasan saksi pun menyatakan Ustad Tajul tak pernah mendakwahkan sebagaimana dituduhkan. Bapak Presiden yang kami hormati Bapak pasti telah mengetahui bahwa persoalan Sunnah-Syiah di dunia Islam telah selesai. Dalam KTT OKI terakhir di Arab Saudi, Raja Abdullah bahkan meminta semua negara Islam memfasilitasi dialog antar mazhab, dimana Syiah menjadi bagian di dalamnya. Bahkan sebelumnya, pada 2005, telah lahir "Deklarasi Amman" yang ditandatangani ratusan ulama terkemuka dari negara-negara Muslim, termasuk Indonesia. Deklarasi itu tegas menyatakan Syiah adalah mazhab sah dalam Islam. Sungguh tragis saat negara-negara lain telah menutup buku perselisihan antarmazhab, di Indonesia, provokator sektarian terus membakar isu perbedaan ini hingga berdarah-darah. Bapak Presiden yang kami hormati Terkait semua itu, kami sangat berharap pemerintah menaruh perhatian serius pada tragedi berdarah ini dan mengupayakan penegakan keadilan sesegera mungkin agar tak ada lagi tragedi serupa di masa datang. Penegakan hukum juga harus dilakukan terhadap provokator penyebar kebencian dan ektrimisme yang tak kunjung tersentuh hingga hari ini. Kami pun meminta Pemerintah memperhatikan nasib pengungsi dan memulihkan hak-hak mereka sepenuhnya, sebagaimana disyaratkan dalam peraturan perundang-undangan. Bapak Presiden yang kami hormati Dengan semua penjelasan di atas, perkenankan kami selaku warga Negara Kesatuan Republik Indonesia menyampaikan sikap dan tuntutan kami kepada Pemerintah dan Negara yang Bapak pimpin. Muhammad Hasyim, kerap disapa Hamama, meninggal dengan usus terburai dan luka sayatan di punggung. Dia menjadi korban keberingasan setelah berupaya menyelamatkan keluarganya dari amukan massa. Dia meninggal dunia dengan meninggalkan seorang istri dan enam anak. Muhaimin, putra tertuanya, saat ini masih berusia 15 tahun) Kepada yang kami hormati Presiden Republik Indonesia Bapak Dr H Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono Bismihirohmanirohim Teriring salam dan doa dari kami kepada Bapak Presiden. Semoga Bapak dan keluarga selalu dalam keadaan sehat walafiat sehingga dapat menjalankan amanat kenegaraan dan menjalankan roda pemerintahan dengan baik. Bapak Presiden yang kami hormati Mungkin inilah untuk pertama kalinya dalam sejarah Republik Indonesia, warga Syiah di Indonesia—yang diwakili oleh Ahlul Bait Indonesia sebagai organisasi—menulis surat terbuka kepada Bapak. Dalam surat ini, kami mengajukan sikap sekaligus tuntutan terkait Tragedi Berdarah Sampang pada Minggu, 26 Agustus 2012, kepada Pemerintah dan Negara yang Bapak pimpin. Surat ini merupakan wujud harapan besar kami kepada komitmen dan kesungguhan Bapak sebagai Kepala Pemerintahan dan Kepala Negara untuk menjalankan amanat Undang-Undang Dasar Negara Republik Indonesia 1945 dan menegakkan hukum dan keadilan yang beberapa hari lalu terkoyak oleh kegelapan "atas nama agama". Bapak Presiden yang kami hormati Pada 26 Agustus itu, terjadi penyerbuan terencana atas kediaman sekitar 600 orang warga Syiah yang menetap di tiga dusun di Desa Karanggayam, Kecamatan Omben, Kabupaten Sampang, Madura. Berbagai laporan saksi yang kami peroleh mengabarkan kawanan penyerbu maju dengan clurit, parang, dan bom molotov. Tak ada yang bisa membendung. Polisi Sampang, meski telah mendengar rencana penyerangan itu, kalah dalam jumlah. Cerita selebihnya adalah fakta getir: dalam hitungan jam, keberingasan kawanan itu menewaskan satu orang, melukai belasan orang lainnya. Beberapa di antara korban luka masih terbaring kritis di rumah sakit hingga kini. Laporan dari lapangan juga menyebutkan kalau kawanan penyerang membakar puluhan rumah warga Syiah dan menjarah habis isinya – termasuk ternak sapi yang menjadi andalan kehidupan warga yang umumnya petani. Sementara itu, hingga hari ini, Polisi dan TNI masih bekerja keras mengevakuasi ratusan warga yang terpaksa bersembunyi di hutan-hutan seputaran desa dengan bekal seadanya karena ketakutan. Bapak Presiden yang kami hormati Muslim Syiah sudah lama menjadi bagian dari kehidupan sederhana dan bersahaja orang-orang di Sampang. Eskalasi kebencian dan penyerangan terhadap warga Syiah mulai menyeruak selepas munculnya fatwa sesat atas Syiah oleh Majelis Ulama Indonesia Jatimpada 2007. Ini diperparah oleh segelintir mubalig yang menyalakan api kebencian atas warga Syiah. Mereka bahkan menyebut darah orang Syiah halal. Sayangnya, hukum tak pernah menyentuh para penghasut dan penyebar kebencian itu. Padahal, jelas-jelas tindakan mereka melukai Pancasila, menista Undang-Undang Dasar, dan melecehkan peraturan perundang-undangan. Bapak Presiden yang kami hormati Kami ingin Bapak menaruh perhatian besar kepada fatwa tersebut, yang telah melahirkan kebencian atas nama agama. Apalagi fatwa MUI Jatimitu sangat janggal dari sisi manapun. MUI Pusat tak pernah mengeluarkan fatwa sesat atas Syiah. Kementerian Agama pun tak pernah memproses Syiah dalam sebuah Surat Keputusan Bersama sebagaimana diatur dalam peraturan perundang-undangan. Di Sampang pada Desember 2011, fatwa sesat dan provokasi anti-Syiah menemukan bentuk awalnya: teror dan pembakaran pesantren dan rumah warga Syiah pada 26 Desember 2011. Jika ini saja sudah memilukan, lebih gelap fakta bahwa lepas kejadian itu, justru korban teror dan kekerasan, dalam hal ini Ustad Tajul Muluk, pemimpin warga Syiah di Sampang, dimejahijaukan oleh Polisi di Sampang. Pengadilan Negeri Sampang kemudian menjatuhkan hukuman dua tahun penjara kepada Ustad Tajul. Hakim berkesimpulan Ustad Tajul mendakwahkan Al-Quran palsu. Kami menilai putusan itu tidak adil karena hingga persidangan berakhir tak pernah ada bukti Ustad Tajul memiliki Al-Quran palsu sebagaimana dituduhkan. Belasan saksi pun menyatakan Ustad Tajul tak pernah mendakwahkan sebagaimana dituduhkan. Bapak Presiden yang kami hormati Bapak pasti telah mengetahui bahwa persoalan Sunnah-Syiah di dunia Islam telah selesai. Dalam KTT OKI terakhir di Arab Saudi, Raja Abdullah bahkan meminta semua negara Islam memfasilitasi dialog antar mazhab, dimana Syiah menjadi bagian di dalamnya. Bahkan sebelumnya, pada 2005, telah lahir "Deklarasi Amman" yang ditandatangani ratusan ulama terkemuka dari negara-negara Muslim, termasuk Indonesia. Deklarasi itu tegas menyatakan Syiah adalah mazhab sah dalam Islam. Sungguh tragis saat negara-negara lain telah menutup buku perselisihan antarmazhab, di Indonesia, provokator sektarian terus membakar isu perbedaan ini hingga berdarah-darah. Bapak Presiden yang kami hormati Terkait semua itu, kami sangat berharap pemerintah menaruh perhatian serius pada tragedi berdarah ini dan mengupayakan penegakan keadilan sesegera mungkin agar tak ada lagi tragedi serupa di masa datang. Penegakan hukum juga harus dilakukan terhadap provokator penyebar kebencian dan ektrimisme yang tak kunjung tersentuh hingga hari ini. Kami pun meminta Pemerintah memperhatikan nasib pengungsi dan memulihkan hak-hak mereka sepenuhnya, sebagaimana disyaratkan dalam peraturan perundang-undangan. Bapak Presiden yang kami hormati Dengan semua penjelasan di atas, perkenankan kami selaku warga Negara Kesatuan Republik Indonesia menyampaikan sikap dan tuntutan kami kepada Pemerintah dan Negara yang Bapak pimpin. SIKAP DAN TUNTUTAN AHLULBAIT INDONESIA: 1● Meminta Pemerintah mengupayakan dengan segera dialog untuk membatalkan fatwa sesat Syiah yang terbukti memicu lahirnya kebencian dan keberingasan ekstrim yang tidak sejalan dengan nilai-nilai luhur Pancasila. 2● Meminta Pemerintah bekerja keras memulihkan hak-hak korban, termasuk membangun kembali rumah-rumah mereka yang hancur, mengganti harta benda yang dijarah, serta memberi jaminan perlindungan dan keamanan sehingga warga Syiah di Sampang bisa kembali hidup normal di kampung sendiri. 3● Menolak relokasi warga Syiah di Sampang. 4● Meminta Pemerintah melibatkan warga Syiah di Sampang—yang dalam hal ini diwakili oleh Ahlul Bait Indonesia—dalam setiap musyawarah terkait hak-hak mereka. 5● Meminta penghentian semua bentuk kriminalisasi atas warga Syiah, termasuk terhadap terpindana dua tahun penjara Ustad Tajul Muluk. 6● Meminta Pemerintah menindak dan mengadili kawanan penyerang di Sampang berikut otak di balik tragedi berdarah itu. When he had finished his prayer, the people were waiting for him to say Taslim, but before saying Tasiim, he said Takbir and prostrated; then he raised his head, and saying Takbir, he prostrated (SAHU) and then raised his head and finished his prayer with Taslim.     Drs. H. Anasom M.Hum[1] A. LATAR BELAKANG Membaca buku-buku sejarah seperti karya Sartono Kartodirjo Dkk, Sejarah Nasional Indonesia[2], Pengantar Sejarah Indonesia Baru:1500-1900[3], M.C. Ricklefs, Sejarah Indonesia Modern[4], Kuntowijoyo dengan bunya Dinamika Sejarah Umat Islam Indonesia[5] , AM Suryonegoro, Menemukan Sejarah[6], dan juga Api Islam yang terbaru, dan buku-buku lain tentang sejarah nasional yang lain, sebenarnya arti penting tentang sejarah perjuangan menuju kemerdekaan terasa sudah mencukupi. Sepertinya semua telah mendapatkan perhatian untuk ditulis. Namun menjadi ironis ketika mencermati lebih dalam tentang andil umat Islam dalam merebut kemerdekaan yang secara khusus beleum mendapat porsi perhatian yang baik, terutama terkait tentang sejarah Kiai dan Bambu Runcing. Buku-buku sejarah di atas ternyata belum memberikan perhatian secara khusus dalam kajian di dalamnya. Bahkan menjadi lebih ironis lagi termasuk buku-buku yang memang ditulis dengan tema Sejarah Islam atau khazanah keislaman juga tidak menyinggung tentang bambu runcing. Para kiai yang terlibat intensif membakar semangat perjuangan ternyata juga belum mendapat perhatian untuk di tulis. Departemen Agama sebenarnya juga telah menerbitkan buku 3 jilid tentang tokoh-tokoh Islam di Indonesia dalam buku Intelektualisme di Indonesia , namun ternyata tokoh-tokoh yang terkait dengan perjuangan dengan alat bambu runcing belum ada yang di tulis.Padahal dalam berbagai pembicaraan seringkali orang menyebut kehebatan perjuangan bambu runcing, baik yang terkait dengan perjuangan di wilayah Jawa Tengah seperti peristiwa Ambarawa, maupun yang berskala nasional Pertempuran Surabaya yang di pimpin oleh Bung Tomo tidak lepas dari semangat bambu runcing. Bahkan monumen-monumennya sampai sekarang juga sudah di buat, di Surabaya ada tugu Bambu Runcing, di Parakan ada Pondok Pesantren Bambu Runcing. Namun ternyata belum ada kajiaan penelitian yang secara komprehensip terhadap khazanah Islam ini.Siapa yang pertama kali membuat bambu runcing sebagai senjata perang, tidak jelas sekali. Bambu runcing adalah sebatang bambu berkisar panjangnya kurang lebih dua meter yang dibuat runcing pada salah satu ujung atau kedua ujungnya. Peralatan yang sederhana ini, ternyata pada masa perang kemerdekaan telah menjadi senjata massal yang pakai rakyat dalam melawan penjajah.Walaupun tidak sangat jelas siapa memulai dengan senjata sederhana ini untuk perang, melawan perlengkapan lawan yang sudah canggih. Namun Temanggung, atau tepatnya adalah Parakan salah satu wilayah di kabupaten Temanggung telah sangat berjasa membesarkan dan menambah kisah heroisme senjata Bambu Runcing. Pada zaman perang kemerdekaan dulu rakyat datang berbondong-bondong ke kota kecil ini untuk minta berkah do'a dari Kiai Subchi, kiai kharismatik yang memiliki karomah yang luar biasa. Doa-doanya mampu memompa semangat rakyat untuk melawan musuh dengan sangat luar biasa.KH. Syaifuddin Zuhri mengisahkan: "Berbondong-bondong barisan-barisan Lasykar dan TKR menuju ke Parakan,………. Diantaranya yang paling terkenal adalah Hizbullah di bawah pimpinan Zainul Arifin, Barisan Sabilillah di bawah pimpinan KH. Masykur. "Barisan Pemberontak Rakyat Indonesia" di bawah pimpinan Bung Tomo, "Barisan Banteng" dibawah pimpinan dr. Muwardi, Lasykar Rakyat dibawah pimpinan Ir. Sakirman dan masih banyak lagi. Sudah beberapa hari ini baik TKR maupun badan-badan kelasykaran berbondong-bondong menuju ke Parakan……".[7] Inilah sepenggal kesaksian seorang kiai yang langsung mengalami peristiwa, dan Kiai Saefuddin Zuhri juga mengantar beberapa tokoh penting (KH. A Wahid Hasyim, KH. Zainul Arifin, KH. Masykur dan RM Wongsonegoro yang saat itu menjabat sebagai gubernur Jawa Tengah dan bahkan Jendral Sudirman) datang dan berdialog dan minta doa kepada Kiai Subkhi yang saat itu sering di temani oleh Kiai Nawawi dan Kiai Mandzur. Puluhan dan bahkan ratusan ribu orang yang datang ke Parakan mereka kebanyakan membawa senjata Bambu Runcing, tujuan utama mereka adalah memohon berkah doa yang secara khusus untuk pergi memanggul senjata melawan musuh. Oleh sebab sangat bangganya dengan kisah bambu runcing yang heroik tersebut kota Surabayatelah membuat sebuah monument Bambu Runcing yang berdiri tegak di tengah kota di Jalan Jendral Sudirman. Monumen ini melambangkan semangat arek-arek Suroboyo sewaktu melawan penjajah. Senjata yang mereka pakai waktu itu hanyalah bambu runcing. Karena kegigihannya maka Kota Surabaya dapat bebes dari Penjajahan Belanda[8].Tidak hanya Surabaya yang telah menjadikan Bambu Runcing sebagai monumen, Kabupaten Sleman juga membuat sebuah monumen Bambu Runcing, Tugu dengan bentuk padma pada puncaknya, di bagian latar belakang terdapat tugu bentuk dua buah Bambu Runcing berdampingan. Di sebelah kiri dan kanan tugu terdapat prasasti yang berisi nama-nama pahlawan yang gugur dan prasasti peresmian oleh KGPAA Pakualam VIII pada tanggal 15 Januari 1987[9].Walaupun kebanggaan terhadap Bambu Runcing yang diwujudkan dalam bentuk mengabadikan dalam bentuk monument, namun ternyata sejarah Bambu Rucing sendiri belum banyak ditulis orang. Padahal sejarah yang sama yang pernah terjadi sudah banyak ditulis orang. Sejarah nasional Indonesia memang sudah banyak ditulis baik oleh sejarawan asing maupun sejarawan Indonesia, demikian juga sejarah kronik yang secara khusus menkaji periodisasi tertentu. Misalnya sejarah pergerakan, Sejarah modern Islam, Islam pada zaman Jepang, Islam pada masa konstituante, Islam pada masa kolonial dan sebagainya. Namun belum ada yang secara khusus meneliti tentang sejarah perjuangan dengan bambu runcing. Tidak jelas benar mengapa peristiwa sejarah bambu runcing belum menarik minat sejarawan untuk menulis peristiwa tersebut. Kurangnya minat menulis Sejarah Bambu Runcing ini mengakibatkan kisah heroisme diseputar mempertahankan kemerdekaan terasa ada yang kurang. Mungkin bisa jadi orang beralasan bahwa, bambu runcing hanyalah sekadar alat perang yang sederhana, sehingga tidak ada sesuatu yang menarik, namun sebenarnya sejarah bambu runcing tidak sesederhana alat perang saja. Sejarah Bambu Runcing, juga sejarah peran Islam Peasntren, sejarah Islam dan nasionalisme, Sejarah lasykar Rakyat, sejarah Hizbullah, Sabilillah, bahkan juga sejarah TKR. Dan khususnya bagi masyarakat Temanggung erat sekali dengan wadah perjuangan mereka yakni BMT (Barisan Muslimin Temanggung). B. RUMUSAN MASALAH Oleh sebab skup pengaruh perjuangan dengan bambu runcing ini sangat luas dan bahkan berskala nasional, juga di dasari oleh kepentingan fokus penelitian, maka penelitian ini tidak akan mengkaji keseluruhan. Penelitian ini akan memfokuskan kepada lokalitas di mana asal mula bamboo runcing tersebut di buat yakni di kota Parakan Kabupaten Temanggung. Penelitian ini akan memfokuskan untuk menjawab pertanyaan sebagai berikut : Siapa pencetus gerakan perjuangan dengan senjata bambu runcing? Apa yang melatar belakangi terciptanya senjata bambu runcing? Siapa saja yang pernah terlibat dalam perjuangan dengan menggunakan senjata bambu runcing? Adakah peninggalan-peninggalan sejarahnya, dalam bentuk apa dan di mana? E. METODE PENELITIAN DAN SUMBER 1. SUMBER Sebagai sebuah penelitian sejarah, penelitian ini akan menggunakan sumber sejarah baik dalam bentuk buku, dokumen, situs, arsip dan sebagainya. Namun dengan metode sejarah lesan, maka tokoh yang terlibat dan terkait dengan sejarah bambu runcing akan menjadi sumber penting dan utama. Siapa tokoh-tokoh tersebut? Mereka adalah orang-orang yang mengalami, orang-orang yang tahu, dan orang-orang yang dekat dengan tema penelitian ini. 2. METODE Metode dalam penelitian ini semula menggunakan Metode Sejarah lesan saja. Namun muncul kendala dilapangan, karena sedikitnya informan yang masi dapat mengingat dengan baik peristiwa bambu runcing. Sehingga metode sejarah tulis, dan metode sejarah lesan digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Metode Sejarah meliputi empat tahapan[10], yaitu : 1. Heuristik (pencarian sumber) Tahap ini merupakan tahap pertama yang harus dilakukan dalam merekonstruksi masa lampau. Sumber-sumber itu tidak datang dengan sendirinya oleh karena itu, sumber harus dicari dan dikumpulkan. Ketika kita akan merekonstruksi masa lampau, kita harus melakukan pencarian sumber, dalam pencarian sumber perlu diketahui mengenai jenis-jenis sumber. Sumber dapat dibagi menjadi dua yaitu sumber tertulis (dokumen, arsip, surat, buku, koran), sumber benda (foto, makam, mesjid), dan sumber lisan.Berdasarkan asal-usulnya, sumber dapat dibagi menjadi tiga (dua yang utama), yaitu sumber primer (pelaku, saksi), sumber sekunder (orang yang tidak sezaman dengan peristiwa), dan sumber tersier (karya ilmiah).Penelusuran sumber-sumber ini dapat dilakukan di tempat yang memungkinkan seperti, perpustakaan, arsip nasional/daerah, museum, dan dokumen pribadi atau lembaga. Tentu saja, sumber yang dicari di tempat-tempat tersebut harus berkaitan dengan masa lampau yang hendak direkonstruksi.2. Kritik (pemilahan sumber) Tahap berikutnya adalah kritik atau pemilahan sumber. Sumber yang dicari dan dikumpulkan kemudian dipilah. Ada dua aspek yang harus dilihat dari sebuah sumber ketika sumber itu akan dipilah. Pertama, adalah kritik eksternal atau pemilahan berdasarkan keaslian sumber. Untuk menentukan keaslian sumber, dapat dilakukan dengan beberapa cara, seperti melihat material sumber tersebut apakah sesuai dengan zamannya atau tidak, jika sesuai maka sumber tersebut kemungkinan besar merupakan sumber asli. Kedua adalah kritik internal atau pemilahan berdasarkan kredibilitas (tingkat kepercayaan). Pemilahan ini dapat dilakukan dengan menentukan kemauan dan kemampuan sumber dalam menyampaikan kebenaran. Jadi, dalam pemilahan kredibilitas harus dilihat dari kompetensi dan kejujuran sumber.3. Interpretasi (penafsiran fakta) Setelah sumber dikumpulkan dan dipilah, langkah selanjutnya adalah menafsirkan sumber. Namun, sebelumnya sumber yang telah dikumpukan dan dipilah harus mendapat dukungan dari sumber lain atau koroborasi, sehingga sumber tersebut menjadi fakta sejarah. Setelah ditemukan fakta sejarah, kemudian ditafsirkan sehingga setiap fakta yang ada akan terangkai dalam suatu cerita utuh yang sudah tentu kronologis. Perlu dipahami juga, penafsiran yang dilakukan dalam tahap ini tidak bebas tetapi harus sesuai dengan fakta lain yang ada.4. Historiografi (penulisan sejarah) Inilah tahap terakhir dalam metode sejarah, yaitu historiografi. Pada tahap ini, setiap fakta yang telah ditafsirkan kemudian dirangkai menjadi suatu kesatuan utuh. Hal yang harus diperhatikan adalah urut-urutan waktu kejadian. Dalam historiografi, urut-urutan waktu kejadian menjadi suatu keharusan sehingga karya yang dihasilkan sejarawan itu rapi, sesuai dengan urutan waktu tidak acak-acakan. Sedankan tiga langkah kerja dalam metode sejarah lesan, yaitu tahap persiapan, tahap pelaksanaan, dan tahap pembuatan indeks dan transkripsi[11]. Berikut adalah penjelasan singkatnya :a. Tahap persiapanTahap ini merupakan tahap awal dari tiga tahapan sejarah lisan. Pada tahapan ini, kegiatan yang harus dilakukan peneliti adalah, menentukan topik yang menarik, dan sesuai dengan kemampuan peneliti, kemudian setelah topik dipilih, peneliti menentukan pemahaman masalah bisa dengan studi pustaka atau melalui internet sebagai pengetahuan awal sebelum meneliti. Langkah selanjutnya adalah perumusan masalah, setelah pejajakan awal, maka dibuat kerangka permasalahan yang diteliti yang diwujudkan dalam kendali wawancara atau daftar pertanyaan. Langkah selanjutnya adalah mencari narasumber dan membuat daftar narasumber. Setelah memiliki daftar narasumber untuk diseleksi. Setelah diseleksi, saatnya membuat janji dengan narasumber mengenai kapan dan dimana wawancara dilakukan, sebelumnya pengenalan lapangan sangat penting demi hasil wawancara yang baik, selain itu pengenalan alat rekam juga menentukan kualitas rekaman.b. Tahap pelaksanaan Sebelum memulai wawancara, peneliti diharuskan untuk membuat label wawancara. Label wawancara meliputi, nama pengkisah, nama pewawancara, tanggal dan tempat wawancara, waktu wawancara dan topik atau judul penelitian. Setelah label dibuat, maka wawancara dapat dilaksanakan. Pertama adalah pembukaan, sebelum mengajukan pertanyaan ini, ada baiknya dilakukan pembukaan yang baik dengan misalnya menanyakan kabar pengkisah atau pertanyaan-pertanyaan umum lainnya. Tujuannya adalah untuk menimbulkan suasana keakraban diantara pengkisah dengan pewawancara, sehingga diharapkan pengkisah nyaman dengan wawancara tidak seperti diinterogasi.Dalam melakukan wawancara, pewawancara juga harus memiliki catatan kecil untuk menulis pertanyaan-pertanyaan baru yang ditanyakan sesuai dengan jawaban pengkisah. Pertanyaan ini membuat wawancara semakin luas. Setelah semua pertanyaan dijawab dan tidak ada pertanyaan baru, maka wawancara ditutup. Wawancara hendaknya tidak lebih dari satu setengah jam, karena lebih dari itu wawancara tidak lagi kondusif. Wawancara diakhiri dengan label penutup sama seperti label pembuka tetapi tentu jamnya akan berbeda. Setelah label selesai, surat penyataan harus ditandatangani oleh pengkisah sebagai bukti bahwa wawancara benar-benar telah dilakukan.c. Tahap pembuatan indeks dan transkripsi Indeks dibuat untuk mempermudah penggunaan hasil sejarah lisan. Indeks sama halnya dengan daftar isi pada sebuah buku. Disamping itu, transkripsi juga perlu dibuat untuk memudahkan penggunaan hasil sejarah lisan, tujuannya untuk membuat orang lain atau pengguna hasil sejarah lisan dapat menggunakannya dengan mudah. Oleh karena itu, transkripsi dilakukan sesuai dengan apa yang terdengar dalam alat perekam. F. HASIL PENELITIAN BJ. Boland mengatakan walaupun terjadi berbagai ketegangan dalam kurun waktu antara tahun 1945 dan 1950 karena berbagai kepentingan, namun dapat disifatkan sebagai suatu periode yang secara relatif memiliki persatuan-dalam-perjuangan[12]. Tujuan utama setiap orang, juga bagi kalangan Islam, adalah membela kemerdekaan dan kebebasan menghadapi musuh ber­sama dari luar. Dalam perasaan kaum Muslimin, perjuangan untuk kemerdeka­an pblitik ini sekaligus merupakan perjuangan untuk kemerdekaan Islam. Kita sudah mengutip penjelasan bagaimana pada bulan Oktober 1944 pimpinan Masyumi,mendorong para anggotanya "untuk menyiapkan kaum Muslimin bagi kemerdekaan tsegerinya dan agamanya"." Demikian pulalah makanya perjuangan kemerdekaan antara tahun 1945 dan 1950 dirasakan oleh kaum Muslimin sebagai perjuangan untuk negerinya dan agamariya itu. Sejak bulan Qktober 1945, Nahdatul Ulama sudah mengeluarkan suatu resolusi mengenai jihad, yang harus dipandang sebagai fatwa yang sah dari para ulama[13]. Untuk menguraikan masalah tentang perang kemerdekaan dalam tulisan ini akan di uraikan dalam beberapa point sebagai berikut: Proklamasi, Merebut Kekuasaan dan menegakkan kadaulatan Proklamasi, Menyusun Pertahanan dan Keamanan. PROKLAMASI Ada hal menarik terjadi saat mencari waktu untuk pelaksanaan proklamasi, selama ini yang terdengar sampai kepada generasi sekarang adalah peristiwa penculikan, namun ternyatatanggal 17 Agustus 1945 merupakan hasil konsultasi Soekarno kepada para ulama. A.M Suryonegoro mengatakan bahwa sebelum proklamasi Soekarno datang menemui beberapa ulama 1. Syekh Moesa seorang ulama yang sudah berumur 80 tahun di daerah Sukanegar Cianjur Selatan. 2. K.H Abdul Mukti dari Madiun dan 3. KH. Hasyim Asy'ari Tebu Ireng. Para Ulama ini adalah tokoh-tokoh berpengaruh dari Ormas Muhammadiyah dan Nahdlatul Ulama. Tetapi bung Karno juga dating konsultasi kepada Drs. Sosro kartono kakaknya R.A Kartini. Kemantapan datangnya kemerdekaan semakin jelas dan konsultasi kepada para kiai dan tokoh menjadi daya penguat Soekarno untuk memerdekakan Indonesia pada tanggal 17 Agustus[14].     JAIZ Bank gets Bangladeshi MD Jaiz Bank Plc has appointed Muhammad Nurul Islam from the Islamic Bank Bangladesh Limited as its new Managing Director. He is to steer the affairs of the bank and position it to realize its vision of being the "dominant non- interest financial services provider in Sub-Saharan Africa." A statement from the bank in Abuja on Monday noted that until his current appointment, Mohammed Nurul Islam was a Deputy Managing Director at the Islamic Bank Bangladesh Limited. He takes over from Nigeria's Hassan Usman, who has been the bank's acting Managing Director since April. Jaiz bank said Mohammed Nurul Islam "is coming with vast knowledge of Non-Interest Islamic Banking experience having worked for over three decades." He joined the Islamic Bank Bangladesh Limited on the March 30, 1983 as an Officer and within a decade he rose to the position of Assistant Vice President (AVP) in 1993, Vice President in 1996, Senior Vice President (SVP) 2000, Executive Vice President (EVP) 2003, and then Deputy Managing Director (DMD) on February 10, 2010 a position he held until his appointment as MD/CEO by Jaiz Bank Plc. -THE NATION NEWS

 al-ansar - Social Mention: Abu Hurayrah. "An Abi Hurayrata, radiyallahu anhu, qal.' qala rasul Allahi, sallallahu alayhi wa sailam..." Through this phrase millions of Muslims from the early history of Islam to the present have come to be familiar with the name Abu Hurayrah. In speeches and lectures, in Friday khutbahs and seminars, in the books of hadith and sirah, fiqh and ibadah, the n ame Abu Hurayrah is mentioned in this fashion: "On the authority of Abu Hurayrah, may God be pleased with him who said: The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said... ". Through his Prodigious efforts, hundreds of ahadith or sayings of the Prophet were transmitted to later generations. His is the foremost name in the roll of hadith transmitters. Next to him comes the names of such companions as Abdullah the son of Umar, Anas the son of Malik, Umm al-Mumininin Aishah, Jabir ibn Abdullah and Abu Said al-Khudri all of whom transmitted over a thousand sayings of the Prophet. Abu Hurayrah became a Muslim at the hands of at-Tufayl ibn Amr the chieftain of the Daws tribe to which he belonged. The Daws lived in the region of Tihamah which stretches along the coast of the Red Sea in southern Arabia. When at-Tufayl returned to his village after meeting the Prophet and becoming a Muslim in the early years of his mission, Abu Hurayrah was one of the first to respond to his call. He was unlike the majority of the Daws who remained stubborn in their old beliefs for a long time. When at-Tufayl visited Makkah again, Abu Hurayrah accompanied him. There he had the honor and privilege of meeting the noble Prophet who asked him: "What is your name?" "Abdu Shams - Servant of a Sun," he replied. "Instead, let it be Abdur-Rahman - the Servant of the Beneficent Lord," said the Prophet. "Yes, Abdur-Rahman (it shall be) O Messenger of God," he replied. However, he continued to be known as Abu Hurayrah, "the kitten man", literally "the father of a kitten" because like the Prophet he was fond of cats and since his childhood often had a cat to play with. Abu Hurayrah stayed in Tihamah for several years and it was only at the beginning of the seventh year of the Hijrah that he arrived in Madinah with others of his tribe. The Prophet had gone on a campaign to Khaybar. Being destitute, Abu Hurayrah took up h is place in the Masjid with other of the Ahl as-Suffah. He was single, without wife or child. With him however was his mother who was still a mushrik. He longed, and prayed, for her to become a Muslim but she adamantly refused. One day, he invited her to have faith in God alone and follow His Prophet but she uttered some words about the Prophet which saddened him greatly. With tears in his eyes, he went to the noble Prophet who said to him: "What makes you cry, O Abu Hurayrah?" "I have not let up in inviting my mother to Islam but she has always rebuffed me. Today, I invited her again and I heard words from her which I do not like. Do make supplication to God Almighty to make the heart of Abu Hurayrah's mother incline to Isl am." The Prophet responded to Abu Hurayrah's request and prayed for his mother. Abu Hurayrah said: "I went home and found the door closed. I heard the splashing of water and when I tried to enter my mother said: "Stay where you are, O Abu Hurayrah." And after putting on her clothes, she said, "Enter!" I entered and she said: "I testify that there is no god but Allah and I testify that Muhammad is His Servant and His Messenger." "I returned to the Prophet, peace be on him, weeping with joy just as an hour before I had gone weeping from sadness and said: "I have good news, O Messenger of Allah. God has responded to your prayer and guided the mother of Abu Hurayrah to Islam." Abu Hurayrah loved the Prophet a great deal and found favor with him. He was never tired of looking at the Prophet whose face appeared to him as having all the radiance of the sun and he was never tired of listening to him. Often he would praise God for h is good fortune and say: "Praise be to God Who has guided Abu Hurayrah to Islam." Praise be to God Who has taught Abu Hurayrah the Quran." "Praise be to God who has bestowed on Abu Hurayrah the companionship of Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace." On reaching Madinah, Abu Hurayrah set his heart on attaining knowledge. Zayd ibn Thabit the notable companion of the Prophet reported : "While Abu Hurayrah and I and another friend of mine were in the Masjid praying to God Almighty and performing dhikr to Him, the Messenger of God appeared. He came towards us and sat among us. We became silent and he said: "Carry on with what you were d oing." "So my friend and I made a supplication to God before Abu Hurayrah did and the Prophet began to say Ameen to our dua. "Then Abu Hurayrah made a supplication saying: "O Lord, I ask You for what my two companions have asked and I ask You for knowledge which will not be forgotten." "The Prophet, peace be on him, said: 'Ameen.' "We then said: 'And we ask Allah for knowledge which will not be forgotten, and the Prophet replied: 'The Dawsi youth has asked for this before you." "With his formidable memory, Abu Hurayrah set out to memorize in the four years that he spent with the Prophet, the gems of wisdom that emanated from his lips. He realized that he had a great gift and he set about to use it to the full in the service of I slam. He had free time at his disposal. Unlike many of the Muhajirin he did not busy himself' in the market-places, with buying and selling. Unlike many of the Ansar, he had no land to cultivate nor crops to tend. He stayed with the Prophet in Madinah and went with him on journeys and expeditions. Many companions were amazed at the number of hadith he had memorized and often questioned him on when he had heard a certain hadith and under what circumstances. Once Marwan ibn al-Hakam wanted to test Abu Hurayrah's power of memory. He sat with him in one room and behind a curtain he placed a scribe, unknown to Abu Hurayrah, and ordered him to write down whatever Abu Hurayrah said. A year later, Marwan called Ab u Hurayrah again and asked him to recall the same ahadith which the scribe had recorded. It was found that he had forgotten not a single word. Abu Hurayrah was concerned to teach and transmit the ahadith he had memorized and knowledge of Islam in general. It is reported that one day he passed through the suq of Madinah and naturally saw people engrossed in the business of buying and selling. "How feeble are you, O people of Madinah!" he said. "What do you see that is feeble in us, Abu Hurayrah?" they asked. "The inheritance of the Messenger of God, peace be on him, is being distributed and you remain here! Won't you go and take your portion?" "Where is this, O Abu Hurayrah?" they asked. "In the Masjid," he replied. Quickly they left. Abu Hurayrah waited until they returned. When they saw him, they said: "O Abu Hurayrah, we went to the Masjid and entered and we did not see anything being distributed." "Didn't you see anyone in the Masjid?" he asked. "O yes, we saw some people performing Salat, some people reading the Quran and some people discussing about what is halal and what is haram." "Woe unto you," replied Abu Hurayrah," that is the inheritance of Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace." Abu Hurayrah underwent much hardship and difficulties as a result of his dedicated search for knowledge. He was often hungry and destitute. He said about himself: "When I was afflicted with severe hunger, I would go to a companion' of the Prophet and asked him about an ayah of the Quran and (stay with him) learning it so that he would take me with him to his house and give food. " One day, my hunger became so severe that I placed a stone on my stomach. I then sat down in the path of the companions. Abu Bakr passed by and I asked him about an ayah of the Book of God. I only asked him so that he would invite me but he didn't. "Then Umar ibn al-Khattab passed by me and I asked him about an ayah but he also did not invite me. Then the Messenger of God, peace be on him, passed by and realized that I was hungry and said: "Abu Hurayrah!" "At your command" I replied and followed him until we entered his house. He found a bowl of milk and asked his family: "From where did you get this?" "Someone sent it to you" they replied. He then said to me: "O Abu Hurayrah, go to the Ahl as-Suffah and invite them." Abu Hurayrah did as he was told and they all drank from the milk. The time came of course when the Muslims were blessed with great wealth and material goodness of every description. Abu Hurayrah eventually got his share of wealth. He had a comfortable home, a wife and child. But this turn of fortune did not change his personality. Neither did he forget his days of destitution. He would "I grew up as an orphan and I emigrated as a poor and indigent person. I used to take food for my stomach from Busrah bint Ghazwan. I served people when they returned from journeys and l ed their camels when they set out. Then God caused me to marry her (Busrah). So praise be to God who has strengthened his religion and made Abu Hurayrah an imam." (This last statement is a reference to the time when he became governor of Madinah.) Much of Abu Hurayrah's time would be spent in spiritual exercises and devotion to God. Qiyam al-Layl staying up for the night in prayer and devotion - was a regular practice of his family including his wife and his daughter. He would stay up for a third o f the night, his wife for another third and his daughter for a third. In this way, in the house of Abu Hurayrah no hour of the night would pass without ibadah, dhikr and Salat. During the caliphate of Umar, Umar appointed him as governor of Bakrain. Umar was very scrupulous about the type of persons whom he appointed as governors. He was always concerned that his governors should live simply and frugally and not acquire much wea lth even though this was through lawful means. In Bahrain, Abu Hurayrah became quite rich. Umar heard of this and recalled him to Madinah. Umar thought he had acquired his wealth through unlawful means and questioned him about where and how he had acquired such a fortune. Abu Hurayrah replied: "From b reeding horses and gifts which I received." "Hand it over to the treasury of the Muslims," ordered Umar. Abu Hurayrah did as he was told and raised his hands to the heavens and prayed: "O Lord, forgive the Amir al-Muminin." Subsequently, Umar asked him to become governor once again but he declined. Umar asked him why he refused and he said: "So that my honor would not be besmirched, my wealth taken and my back beaten." And he added: "And I fear to judge without knowledge and speak without wisdom." Throughout his life Abu Hurayrah remained kind and courteous to his mother. Whenever he wanted to leave home, he would stand at the door of her room and say: As-salaamu alaykum, yaa ummataah, wa rahrnatullahi wa barakatuhu, peace be on you, mother, and th e mercy and blessings of God." She would reply: "Wa alayka-s salaam, yaa bunayya, wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu - And on you be peace, my son, and the mercy and blessings of God." Often, he would also say: "May God have mercy on you as you cared for me wh en I was small," and she would reply: "May God have mercy on you as you delivered me from error when I was old." Abu Hurayrah always encouraged other people to be kind and good to their parents. One day he saw two men walking together, one older than the other. He asked the younger one: "What is this man to you?" "My father," the person replied. "Don't call him by his name. Don't walk in front of him and don't sit before him," advised Abu Hurayrah. Muslims owe a debt of gratitude to Abu Hurayrah for helping to preserve and transmit the valuable legacy of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace. He died in the year 59 AH when he was seventy-eight years old.

There he had the honor and privilege of meeting the noble Prophet who asked him: "What is your name?" "Abdu Shams - Servant of a Sun," he replied. "Instead, let it be Abdur-Rahman - the Servant of the Beneficent Lord," said the Prophet. "Yes, Abdur-Rahman (it shall be) O Messenger of God," he replied. However, he continued to be known as Abu Hurayrah, "the kitten man", literally "the father of a kitten" because like the Prophet he was fond of cats and since his childhood often had a cat to play with. Abu Hurayrah stayed in Tihamah for several years and it was only at the beginning of the seventh year of the Hijrah that he arrived in Madinah with others of his tribe. The Prophet had gone on a campaign to Khaybar. Being destitute, Abu Hurayrah took up h is place in the Masjid with other of the Ahl as-Suffah. He was single, without wife or child. With him however was his mother who was still a mushrik. He longed, and prayed, for her to become a Muslim but she adamantly refused. One day, he invited her to have faith in God alone and follow His Prophet but she uttered some words about the Prophet which saddened him greatly. With tears in his eyes, he went to the noble Prophet who said to him: "What makes you cry, O Abu Hurayrah?" "I have not let up in inviting my mother to Islam but she has always rebuffed me. Today, I invited her again and I heard words from her which I do not like. Do make supplication to God Almighty to make the heart of Abu Hurayrah's mother incline to Isl am." The Prophet responded to Abu Hurayrah's request and prayed for his mother. Abu Hurayrah said: "I went home and found the door closed. I heard the splashing of water and when I tried to enter my mother said: "Stay where you are, O Abu Hurayrah." And after putting on her clothes, she said, "Enter!" I entered and she said: "I testify that there is no god but Allah and I testify that Muhammad is His Servant and His Messenger." "I returned to the Prophet, peace be on him, weeping with joy just as an hour before I had gone weeping from sadness and said: "I have good news, O Messenger of Allah. God has responded to your prayer and guided the mother of Abu Hurayrah to Islam." Abu Hurayrah loved the Prophet a great deal and found favor with him. He was never tired of looking at the Prophet whose face appeared to him as having all the radiance of the sun and he was never tired of listening to him. Often he would praise God for h is good fortune and say: "Praise be to God Who has guided Abu Hurayrah to Islam." Praise be to God Who has taught Abu Hurayrah the Quran." "Praise be to God who has bestowed on Abu Hurayrah the companionship of Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace." On reaching Madinah, Abu Hurayrah set his heart on attaining knowledge. Zayd ibn Thabit the notable companion of the Prophet reported : "While Abu Hurayrah and I and another friend of mine were in the Masjid praying to God Almighty and performing dhikr to Him, the Messenger of God appeared. He came towards us and sat among us. We became silent and he said: "Carry on with what you were d oing." "So my friend and I made a supplication to God before Abu Hurayrah did and the Prophet began to say Ameen to our dua. "Then Abu Hurayrah made a supplication saying: "O Lord, I ask You for what my two companions have asked and I ask You for knowledge which will not be forgotten." "The Prophet, peace be on him, said: 'Ameen.' "We then said: 'And we ask Allah for knowledge which will not be forgotten, and the Prophet replied: 'The Dawsi youth has asked for this before you." "With his formidable memory, Abu Hurayrah set out to memorize in the four years that he spent with the Prophet, the gems of wisdom that emanated from his lips. He realized that he had a great gift and he set about to use it to the full in the service of I slam. He had free time at his disposal. Unlike many of the Muhajirin he did not busy himself' in the market-places, with buying and selling. Unlike many of the Ansar, he had no land to cultivate nor crops to tend. He stayed with the Prophet in Madinah and went with him on journeys and expeditions. Many companions were amazed at the number of hadith he had memorized and often questioned him on when he had heard a certain hadith and under what circumstances. Once Marwan ibn al-Hakam wanted to test Abu Hurayrah's power of memory. He sat with him in one room and behind a curtain he placed a scribe, unknown to Abu Hurayrah, and ordered him to write down whatever Abu Hurayrah said. A year later, Marwan called Ab u Hurayrah again and asked him to recall the same ahadith which the scribe had recorded. It was found that he had forgotten not a single word. Abu Hurayrah was concerned to teach and transmit the ahadith he had memorized and knowledge of Islam in general. It is reported that one day he passed through the suq of Madinah and naturally saw people engrossed in the business of buying and selling. "How feeble are you, O people of Madinah!" he said. "What do you see that is feeble in us, Abu Hurayrah?" they asked. "The inheritance of the Messenger of God, peace be on him, is being distributed and you remain here! Won't you go and take your portion?" "Where is this, O Abu Hurayrah?" they asked. "In the Masjid," he replied. Quickly they left. Abu Hurayrah waited until they returned. When they saw him, they said: "O Abu Hurayrah, we went to the Masjid and entered and we did not see anything being distributed." "Didn't you see anyone in the Masjid?" he asked. "O yes, we saw some people performing Salat, some people reading the Quran and some people discussing about what is halal and what is haram." "Woe unto you," replied Abu Hurayrah," that is the inheritance of Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace." Abu Hurayrah underwent much hardship and difficulties as a result of his dedicated search for knowledge. He was often hungry and destitute. He said about himself: "When I was afflicted with severe hunger, I would go to a companion' of the Prophet and asked him about an ayah of the Quran and (stay with him) learning it so that he would take me with him to his house and give food. " One day, my hunger became so severe that I placed a stone on my stomach. I then sat down in the path of the companions. Abu Bakr passed by and I asked him about an ayah of the Book of God. I only asked him so that he would invite me but he didn't. "Then Umar ibn al-Khattab passed by me and I asked him about an ayah but he also did not invite me. Then the Messenger of God, peace be on him, passed by and realized that I was hungry and said: "Abu Hurayrah!" "At your command" I replied and followed him until we entered his house. He found a bowl of milk and asked his family: "From where did you get this?" "Someone sent it to you" they replied. He then said to me: "O Abu Hurayrah, go to the Ahl as-Suffah and invite them." Abu Hurayrah did as he was told and they all drank from the milk. The time came of course when the Muslims were blessed with great wealth and material goodness of every description. Abu Hurayrah eventually got his share of wealth. He had a comfortable home, a wife and child. But this turn of fortune did not change his personality. Neither did he forget his days of destitution. He would "I grew up as an orphan and I emigrated as a poor and indigent person. I used to take food for my stomach from Busrah bint Ghazwan. I served people when they returned from journeys and l ed their camels when they set out. Then God caused me to marry her (Busrah). So praise be to God who has strengthened his religion and made Abu Hurayrah an imam." (This last statement is a reference to the time when he became governor of Madinah.) Much of Abu Hurayrah's time would be spent in spiritual exercises and devotion to God. Qiyam al-Layl staying up for the night in prayer and devotion - was a regular practice of his family including his wife and his daughter. He would stay up for a third o f the night, his wife for another third and his daughter for a third. In this way, in the house of Abu Hurayrah no hour of the night would pass without ibadah, dhikr and Salat. During the caliphate of Umar, Umar appointed him as governor of Bakrain. Umar was very scrupulous about the type of persons whom he appointed as governors. He was always concerned that his governors should live simply and frugally and not acquire much wea lth even though this was through lawful means. In Bahrain, Abu Hurayrah became quite rich. Umar heard of this and recalled him to Madinah. Umar thought he had acquired his wealth through unlawful means and questioned him about where and how he had acquired such a fortune. Abu Hurayrah replied: "From b reeding horses and gifts which I received." "Hand it over to the treasury of the Muslims," ordered Umar. Abu Hurayrah did as he was told and raised his hands to the heavens and prayed: "O Lord, forgive the Amir al-Muminin." Subsequently, Umar asked him to become governor once again but he declined. Umar asked him why he refused and he said: "So that my honor would not be besmirched, my wealth taken and my back beaten." And he added: "And I fear to judge without knowledge and speak without wisdom." Throughout his life Abu Hurayrah remained kind and courteous to his mother. Whenever he wanted to leave home, he would stand at the door of her room and say: As-salaamu alaykum, yaa ummataah, wa rahrnatullahi wa barakatuhu, peace be on you, mother, and th e mercy and blessings of God." She would reply: "Wa alayka-s salaam, yaa bunayya, wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu - And on you be peace, my son, and the mercy and blessings of God." Often, he would also say: "May God have mercy on you as you cared for me wh en I was small," and she would reply: "May God have mercy on you as you delivered me from error when I was old." Abu Hurayrah always encouraged other people to be kind and good to their parents. One day he saw two men walking together, one older than the other. He asked the younger one: "What is this man to you?" "My father," the person replied. "Don't call him by his name. Don't walk in front of him and don't sit before him," advised Abu Hurayrah. Muslims owe a debt of gratitude to Abu Hurayrah for helping to preserve and transmit the valuable legacy of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace. He died in the year 59 AH when he was seventy-eight years old.
