#Egypt Fact: The Egyptian Army -- as the entire military is colloquially known there -- may be one of the U.S. government's best friends in the entire Arab world. American presidents have been encouraging stability in the region for more than 30 years by making the Egyptian military the muscle behind a regional superpower -- one built and trained by Washington.
With many senior officers directly trained in America including Sisi, thus their obedience is to first to America over all other things.
All this gives America quite a bit of leverage when it comes to the Egyptian military, one of the most powerful forces in Egyptian society. (Some estimate that up to 40 percent of the Egyptian economy is controlled by the military seniors like Sisi.)
For change to come in Egypt or any other muslim land it will never come through secular democracy as by going through it, it will make you compromise to such an extent the end result will be no difference between you and a hardened secularist.
The only way for change is following the methodology for change by following our beloved Prophet Muhammad SAW.

die Zakat ist eine Pflicht für jeden Erwachsenen Muslim mit Vermögen.
Einmal jährlich sind wir verpflichtet, 2,5% unseres Vermögen

{Die Almosen sind nur für die Armen, die Bedürftigen, diejenigen, die damit beschäftigt sind, diejenigen, deren Herzen vertraut gemacht werden sollen, (den Loskauf von) Sklaven, die Verschuldeten, auf Allahs Weg und (für) den Sohn des Weges, als Verpflichtung von Allah. Allah ist Allwissend und Allweise} (9:60)
Als der Engel Gabriel den Gesandten Allahs, Allahs Segen und Frieden auf ihn befragte was Islam ist, sagt er:
[...Islam ist, dass du bezeugst, dass es keine Gottheit gibt außer Allah, und dass Muhammad der Gesandte Allahs ist, dass du das Gebet verrichtest, die Armenabgabe (Zakat) gibst, im Ramadan fastest und zum Hause pilgerst, wenn es dir möglich ist.]

Winning election after election here, the Islamists vowed to prove they could govern effectively and implement their vision of political Islam, all while embracing the rules of democracy.
Mohammed Morsi was their pillar: the veteran of the Muslim Brotherhood, the region's oldest and most prestigious political Islamist group, who became Egypt's first freely elected president.
That is what makes his ouster after barely a year in office, with a gigantic cross-section of Egypt's population demanding he go, such a devastating blow to Islamists on multiple levels, not only in Egypt but across a tumultuous region.
Morsi, his Brotherhood and their harder-line allies say they played by the rules of democracy, only to be forced out by opponents who could not play it as well as them at the ballot box and so turned to the military for help. The lesson that the Islamists' extreme fringe may draw: Democracy, which many of them viewed as "kufr" or heresy to begin with, is rigged and violence is the only way to bring their dream of an Islamic state.
But to the millions of Egyptians who marched in the street against Morsi, the Islamists failed at democracy: They overreached.
The protesters became convinced the Islamists were using wins at the polls to centralize power in the hands of the Muslim Brotherhood far beyond their mandate and treat the country as if it accepted the "Islamist project." Even worse, for many of the protesters, the Islamists simply were not fixing Egypt's multiple and worsening woes.
That is a serious setback for their dreams, calling into doubt the argument by Islamists across the region that political Islam is the remedy to their society's ills. The damage to their prestige echoes widely, from Gaza where the Hamas rulers who saw in Morsi a strong ally, to Tunisia where a Brotherhood branch holds power, to Libya and Syria where Islamists push for power.
"The Brotherhood in Egypt is now a cautionary tale," said Michael W. Hanna of the Century Foundation in New York. "Morsi's abysmal performance during their short tenure is a tale of how not to guide and rule."
The irony is, the Brotherhood knew the risks going in. After the 2011 fall of autocrat Hosni Mubarak, the group vowed not to try to dominate parliament and not to run a candidate for president, knowing the backlash if it seemed to be grabbing power or if it led a government that failed to fix a broken Egypt. It went back on each of those promises, every time saying its hand was forced into doing so.
Morsi himself recognized the power of the street as he vowed to be a president for all the people. The day before his formal inauguration on June 30, 2012, he first delivered a symbolic oath of office in Cairo's Tahrir Square, the epicenter of the revolt that overthrew his autocratic predecessor.
"You are the source of power and legitimacy," he told the crowd. Nothing stands above "the will of the people. The nation is the source of all power. It grants and withdraws power."
In the broad range of the political Islam movement — from moderates to militants — the Brotherhood eventually emerged as the central force arguing that Islamists can be democrats. Their influence drew in harder-line groups to participate at the ballot box. Ultraconservatives who once refused elections that could potentially bring any law but God's law took their chance at the polls.
In an impassioned Facebook post just before the army pushed Morsi out Wednesday, one of his top advisers Essam el-Haddad argued that what was happening was irrevocably damaging democracy itself, saying the Brotherhood had been unfairly treated. He insisted history would show the Brotherhood tried to include others in its administration but was shunned.
"Increasingly, the so-called liberals of Egypt escalated a rhetoric inviting the military to become the custodians of government in Egypt," he wrote. "The opposition has steadfastly declined every option that entails a return to the ballot box."
But amid multiple complaints, opponents point to a key factor that turned many against the Brotherhood: the post-Mubarak constitution. Morsi had vowed a consensus on the landmark document, but Islamists dominated the panel writing it. Liberals, leftists, secular politicians and Christians steadily dropped out, complaining Morsi's allies were forcing their vision. In the end, Morsi unilaterally decreed himself and the assembly untouchable by the courts to ensure judges did not dissolve the panel, while Islamists hastily finished writing the charter in an all-night marathon session.
It was rushed to a referendum, where it passed with a hearty 63 percent of the vote — but only just over 32 percent of the electorate casting ballots.
Meanwhile, Brotherhood members and other Islamists were steadily were given more posts across the government, fueling a perception that they were taking over institutions — though they constantly faced resistance on many fronts from the entrenched bureaucracy. Islamist rhetoric from officials and clerics on TV rang in the ears of many as divisive and harsh.
Morsi's ouster could now send the Brotherhood into disarray for years to come, just as a major crackdown on the group did in 1954. Morsi and many of his advisers have been put under house arrest, and he could face trial for escaping prison during the 2011 uprising. Two top leaders of the group, including the head of its political party Saad el-Katatni, were arrested and at least 30 more were expected to meet the same fate.
The danger now could be that a heavy crackdown will turn into forcibly excluding them from politics once more. The Brotherhood was banned for much of its 83-year existence. But it still maintains a powerful, organized and disciplined network of members nationwide.
"The forceful removal of the nation's first democratically-elected civilian president risks sending a message to Islamists that they have no place in the political order; sowing fears among them that they will suffer yet another bloody crackdown; and thus potentially prompting violent, even desperate resistance by Morsi's followers," Brussels based International Crisis group warned in a statement.

It was written by his followers, and then later on after he was gone, some of them decided, you know, let's compare what we have, and make sure that we didn't make errors in our writing.
And that's why they brought those who memorized to sit there and recite, to verify what had been written down, and then destroy everything, starting fresh, just to be sure, from this point forward, we only have what is being recited.

Leben mit Zukunft
Wir setzen uns dafür ein, dass von nun an eine Politik angewendet wird, durch die wir Menschen uns mehr Zeit nehmen können für Familie, Freundinnen und Freunde, Ehrenamt - aber auch jeweils für uns selber.
Eben so und ebenso setzen wir uns dafür ein, dass nachfolgende Generationen eine lebenswerte Zukunft erwartet und auch die Tiere und Pflanzen artgerecht, qualitativ und natürlich leben. Erforderlich ist also eine Politik, in der die Wirtschaft so organisiert ist, daß die Bedürfnisse der Menschen mit wesentlich geringerem Verbrauch ihrer Mitwelt und einem deutlich niedrigeren Ausmaß an Erwerbsarbeit Zufriedenheit erlangen; das geht, und zwar trotz eines technischen Fortschritts, jedoch auch ohne Wirtschaftswachstum! Wir wollen die Bürgerinnen und Bürger aufklären, damit sie eigenverantwortlich nachhaltige Konsumentscheidungen treffen können, aber auch mit aufkommensneutralen Abgaben und Steuern mehr Nachhaltigkeit erreichen (demgemäß würde Schädliches [z.B. konventionelle Ware] teurer, Nützliches [z.B. Bioware] im selben Umfang dagegen billiger). Wir setzen auch in der Sozialpolitik auf mehr Eigenverantwortlichkeit (z.B. durch ein Erziehungsgehalt von mindestens 1000 Euro monatlich, mit dem die Eltern über die Erziehungsart ihrer Kinder selbst entscheiden können). Mit einer Ausdehnung des ÖPNV-Semestertickets auf die gesamte Bevölkerung wollen wir das Auto überflüssig machen. Das ist nicht nur gut für die Umwelt sondern spart pro Person, die bisher ein Auto besitzt, mindestens ca. 500 Euro monatlich ein. Entsprechend könnten diese Bürgerinnen und Bürger ihre bisherige Arbeitszeit verkürzen und sie hätten mehr Zeit. Die Wirtschaft wird über eine Abgabe für Forschung und Bildung herangezogen, die so bemessen ist, dass gleichzeitig Teilzeit gefördert wird. Wir wollen freie Schulwahl, da jedes Kind unterschiedlich ist. Schwarzgelb und rotgrün hingegen setzen oft auf Verschleierung (z.B. gibt es für mit einem Siegel "Bio" etikettierte Kleidung oft noch kein echtes Ökosiegel) und setzen zunehmend auf Fremdbetreuung von Kindern (= die Eltern stehen, ohne dass sie dem zustimmen, der Wirtschaft nahezu unbegrenzt zur Verfügung). Die genannten Parteien sind auf Teile der Wirtschaft angewiesen, indem sie deren Firmenspenden annehmen und ihre Parlamentarier/innen oft bezahlte Aufsichtsratsmandate ausüben. Im Folgenden zeigen wir detailliert auf, wie wir die notwendige Wende zugunsten der Interessen der Bürgerinnen und Bürger und dem Schutz der Natur bewerkstelligen wollen. Wir setzen uns für den Erhalt der Lebensgrundlagen, für ein nachhaltiges Wirtschaften und eine Stärkung der Gemeinschaft ein.

1. Unseren Lebensraum erhalten, indem der immense Flächenverbrauch gestoppt wird
Wir setzen uns dafür ein, dass unser Lebensraum erhalten und qualitativ aufgewertet wird. Hierzu streben wir ein Stopp des enormen Flächenverbrauchs und eine umwelt- und sozialverträgliche Politik an. Täglich verliert unser Land ca. 10 ha an natürlicher Fläche, weil sie für Bauvorhaben verbraucht werden. Für über 1/3 davon ist der Autoverkehr verantwortlich. Der Flächenverbrauch bewirkt auch regionale und globale Klimaänderungen und führt über schnelleren Abfluss zu mehr Hochwasser bei Regenwetter und trocken fallenden Flüssen bei Dürre. Zudem führt er dazu, dass unseren Tieren und Pflanzen immer mehr Lebensraum dauerhaft geraubt wird. Der Flächenverbrauch ist problematisch; ihm ist daher konsequent entgegenzuwirken. Für Bauvorhaben sind vorrangig bereits freie bebaute Flächen oder innerstädtische Brachen zu nutzen.
Dazu kann an ein Zertifikatssystem gedacht werden, welches analog zum Handel mit Emissionen funktionieren könnte, so dass rechnerisch betrachtet für jede verbrauchte Fläche eine neue gleichgroße renaturiert wird.
2. Naturschutz in Hessen stärken
Eine intakte Natur ist elementar für eine gute und gesunde Lebensqualität unserer Bevölkerung. Naturschutz ist daher von zentraler Bedeutung und konsequent einzufordern:
Es sind mehr Flächen als bisher unter strengere Naturschutzkategorien zu stellen. Mindestens 10 % der Fläche Hessens sind als ausgesprochene Vorranggebiete für die Natur auszuweisen, denn Tiere und Pflanzen haben ihren eigenen Wert auch unabhängig von uns.
Verstärkte Beteiligung der Naturschutzverbände bei geplanten Eingriffen.
Schaffung von ausreichend großen Naturwaldzellen zu jeder in Hessen vorkommenden natürlichen Vegetation.
3. Für eine echte ökologische und konsequente Wende der Verkehrspolitik in Hessen
3.1. Verkehrsmeidung – Ja zum Laden um die Ecke, fußgänger- und fahrradfahrerfreundliche Politik
Außer dem Flächenverbrauch ist ein Problem des Verkehrs auch die hohe Zahl an Unfallopfern. Hinzukommt der auch in Hessen viel zu hohe verkehrsbedingte Ausstoß klimawirksamer Gase (im wesentlichen CO2) und der Ausstoß von Feinstaub und Stickoxiden. Der Verkehr ist auch mitverantwortlich für die zunehmenden und krankmachenden Lärmimmissionen.
Hinsichtlich der Unfallgefahr und auch der Umweltverträglichkeit sind Zu-Fuß-gehen, das Fahrrad und der ÖPNV die mit Abstand günstigsten Varianten. Dazu kommt, dass es etwa einem Viertel der Bevölkerung (Kinder, Jugendliche und viele Behinderte) nicht möglich ist, Auto zu fahren. Außerdem lassen sich pro Person mehrere Hundert Euro pro Monat einsparen, wenn man das Auto überflüssig macht. Diese Kostenersparnis bedeutet: Mehr freie Zeit infolge möglicher Arbeitszeitverkürzung.
Eine gute Verkehrspolitik bedingt also:
eine verkehrsvermeidende Politik, die Zersiedelung vorbeugt und Lebensqualität vor Ort schafft.
Aufstellung eines Landesentwicklungsplans, der Verkehrsvermeidung zur Vorschrift macht (so dass man z.B. fußläufig und mit dem Fahrrad einkaufen und andere Besorgungen des täglichen Bedarfs erledigen kann) und die Ansiedlung von Gewerbe und Wohnraum ohne vernünftigen ÖPNV-Anschluss sowie Fuß-/Fahrraderreichbarkeit untersagt. Dies darf aber nicht dazu führen, dass aufgrund dieser Regelung bei neuen Gewerbeansiedlungen einfach nur eine Buslinie eingeführt wird. Der Standort neuer Gewerbeflächen gehört auf den Prüfstand.
Ja auch zu autofreien Wohngebieten und großflächiger Verkehrsberuhigung.
Das ist zunächst einmal nahezu kostenlos erhältlich.
Zur Verkehrsvermeidung ist dezentrale Konzentration geboten; Stadt- und Dorfkerne sind zu fördern, während Neubauten auf der Grünen Wiese grundsätzlich abzulehnen sind.
Ein Verleih von Fahrrädern, auch von führerscheinfreien Elektrorädern (Pedelecs), wird aufgebaut.
Diese Dezentralität mit ihren jeweils überschaubaren Strukturen führt auch zu mehr echtem Miteinander, deshalb auch vergleichsweise zu weniger Anonymität.
Die Regelungen des Verkehrs in Hessen sind zugunsten von Fußgängern, Radfahrern, ÖPNV abzuändern, z.B. Vorrangschaltungen für Busse und Straßenbahnen an den Ampeln flächendeckend einzuführen (was über geringere Umlaufzeiten der Fahrzeuge sogar Geld im Endeffekt spart).
Außerdem sind für die Verkehrslärmbekämpfung (z.B. Bahnlärm im Rheintal) mehr Mittel bereitzustellen.
3.2. Ja zum Recht auf leistungsstarke ÖPNV-Anbindung, Freifahrt für alle à la Semesterticket
Auf dem Land ist als Mindesttakt der Halbstundentakt von morgens früh bis in die Nacht, auch am Wochenende und Feiertagen, einzuführen, um das Umsteigen vom Auto auch dort zumutbar zu machen. Das geht, denn bereits in einem 400 Einwohnerdorf gibt es bei 2 Fahrten täglich pro Person ein Fahrgastpotential von 10 Fahrgästen pro Bus. In den Verdichtungsräumen ist ein noch wesentlich dichterer Taktverkehr nötig: Für die Bewältigung der Verkehrsströme werden einerseits bisherige Bus- und Bahnlinien häufiger fahren, aber auch zahlreiche neue Direktverbindungen mit deutlich kürzeren Fahrzeiten angeboten, damit sich möglichst kurze Reisezeiten ergeben. Hierzu gehören in Randgebieten von Zentren auch Querverbindungen, damit man nicht erst in die Stadt rein muss, um dann wieder raus zu fahren. Das bewirkt ein flexibles Verkehrsmittelangebot für die Bevölkerung.
Dabei sind die Busgrößen (z.B. Midibus oder auch Microbusse) bedarfsabhängiger auszuwählen, um kraftstoff- (damit ökoineffiziente) und geldfressende Busfahrten mit nur sehr wenigen Fahrgästen zu verringern.
Auch Rufbusse bzw. Ruftaxisysteme haben ihre Berechtigung, besonders im ländlichen Raum oder zu Schwachlastzeiten.
Kapazitäten für bessere Bustakte werden frei, indem durch zeitversetzte Schulbeginne benachbarter Schulen Busparallelfahrten abgebaut werden können. Dies spart überdies einige Busfahrzeuge ein, die nur für Schulzwecke gekauft wurden.
Der ÖPNV soll im Vergleich zum Auto das Verkehrsmittel der Wahl sein und muss deshalb finanziell gefördert werden. Wir setzen uns dafür ein, dass in Hessen seine individuelle Nutzung kostenlos ermöglicht wird. Zu finanzieren ist diese Maßnahme durch eine Umlage ähnlich dem des studentischen Semestertickets der Uni Frankfurt (zahlungspflichtig: alle Nichtbehinderten ab 18 Jahre). Inbegriffen sind die IC/EC-Strecken.
Die Kontrolleure/Kontrolleurinnen werden zu Busfahrern/Busfahrerinnen und Lok-(„Triebzug"-)führern/Lokführerinnen umgeschult, vom Erlös der Nahverkehrsautomaten Busse und Züge gekauft, anstelle von z. B. Straßenplanern treten Schienenstreckenplaner und Fahrplanbauerinnen.
Der Freifahrtbereich umfasst auch große Teile der angrenzenden Bundesländer, da deren Leute hier de facto Freifahrt haben. Der genaue Bereich ist dann hierbei Verhandlungssache mit den angrenzenden Bundesländern.
Wir fordern auch den technischen Ausbau des öffentlichen Nah- und Regionalverkehrs (z.B. Ausweichgleise und Weichen für Erlangung einer höheren Streckenkapazität, Bau der Regionaltangente West, Einbindung der Eisenbahn in die Innenstädte z.B. von Wiesbaden (Hbf.-Landtag), Darmstadt (Hbf.-Langer Ludwig-Lichtwiese))und ab Rhein auf Kosten des Landes Rheinland-Pfalz nach Mainz(Kastel-Große Bleiche-Alicenplatz(=Hbf.)-Universität-FH), aber auch so einfache Dinge wie Haltestellenüberdachungen gegen Regenwetter usw.), Busspurenbau (bzw. -auszeichnung), der Beschaffung und Instandhaltung des Fuhrparks (z.B. neue, energiesparendere Triebzüge und Niederflurbusse),
Aufbau eines gut funktionierenden Fuß- und Radwegenetzes (einschl. Bike-and-Ride-Plätze).
Bildung von interkommunalen Buspools, um die Zahl vorgehaltener Reservebusse verringern zu können. Das spart Geld.
Förderung der Kommunen bei der Einführung von Lieferservicediensten zur Verringerung des PKW-Verkehrs, Zweck: Lieferung von Waren aller Geschäfte (ab einem gewissen Warenwert oder Gewicht oder Sperrigkeit) der näheren Umgebung an die Bürger.
Umstellung des gesamten ÖPNV-Fuhrparks auf Niederflur (bei gleichzeitiger Anlage von Hochbordgehsteigen an den Haltestellen), so dass auch Rollstühle, Kinderwagen, Einkaufswagen gut transportiert werden können.
Zur Abdeckung restlicher Mobilitätswünsche wird der Aufbau eines Car-Sharing-Systems gefördert.
3.3. Nein zum weiteren Fernstraßenbau
Der Fernstraßenneu- und ausbau wird beendet. Der Bau von Ortsumgehungen wird zur Ausnahme werden, bestehende Bauprojekte müssen kritisch überprüft werden, weil der massenhafte Umstieg vom Auto auf die Bahn neue Straßen in der Regel überflüssig machen wird. Vielmehr können einzelne Strecken zurückgebaut werden (z.B. B455 alt westlich Oberursel) oder 3-spurige zu 2-spurigen Autobahnen werden, z. T. auch Umwandlung in Eisenbahntrassen (z.B. 1 Spur von Teilen der A66 für eine schnellere Bahnanbindung Frankfurts an Wiesbaden).
Einführung einer Pkw- City-Maut für die größeren Städte unter Einbezug der Standorte auf der Grünen Wiese, um Abwandern der Einkaufenden dahin zu vermeiden. Zweckgebunden für den Verkehr(Instandhaltung des Straßennetzes, weitere ÖPNV-Fahrleistungen für die zahlreichen Umsteiger auf den ÖPNV, z.B. auch Gelenkbusse von Eschborn Gewerbegebiet über die Autobahn- Frankfurt Hbf. zur Zeil, um die auch bei jeweils 15 Min.-Takt von S3 und S4 ab Eschborn Süd zu vollen S-Bahnen zu entlasten und um einen teuren Zusatztunnel in der Frankfurter Innenstadt finanziell herumzukommen).
Es sind verstärkt Tempolimits einzuführen: Tempo 30 innerorts, nur auf ausgewählten Hauptstraßen 50. Auf den Autobahnen Tempo 120, soweit nicht z.B. Lärmschutz oder Unfallsicherheit strengere Werte erfordern.
3.4. Flughafen: Nordwestlandebahn zurückbauen
Es ist eine europaweite Kerosinsteuer (Flugbenzinsteuer) in Höhe der Mineralöl- (bzw. Primärenergie)steuer einzuführen. Dadurch bauen wir eine ökologisch sinnlose Subventionierung des Flugverkehrs ab. Dies allein wird bereits die Expansion des Flugverkehrs verhindern.
Der innereuropäische Flugverkehr ist auf umweltfreundlichere Schnellst-Züge zu verlagern. Kurzfristig ist dies für innerdeutsche Flüge mit den vorhandenen Bahnstrecken bereits jetzt umsetzbar.
Wir fordern den Rückbau der Nordwestlandebahn des Frankfurter Flughafens- auch aufgrund der nicht mehr vertretbaren Lärmbelästigung der Flughafenanwohner. Ebenso kein Aus- oder Neubau weiterer hessischer Flughäfen und Flugplätze. Langfristig betrachtet erscheint es durch unsere Maßnahmen möglich, zusätzlich sogar die Startbahn West zu renaturieren.
Ein generelles Nachtstart- und -landeverbot von 22-6 Uhr ist einzuführen, ebenso der im Mediationsverfahren geforderte Lärmtaler zur Bevorzugung leiserer Maschinen. Strenge Lärmgrenzwerte müssen einklagbar werden.
Die Start- und Landegebühren sind hessenweit nach ökologischen Aspekten zu differenzieren.
4. Energiesparen und erneuerbare Energien stärker fördern, umweltschädliche Methoden verbieten

Al-Qaeda adalah jaringan teroris internasional yang dipimpin oleh Usama Bin Laden [yang "Osama" adalah ejaan usang, karena tidak ada huruf "O" dalam bahasa Arab). Didirikan sekitar 1988 oleh bin Laden, al-Qaeda membantu keuangan, merekrut, transportasi dan melatih ribuan bertahap dari puluhan negara menjadi bagian dari Afghanistan tahan untuk mengalahkan Uni Soviet. Untuk melanjutkan jihad di luar Afganistan, al-Qaeda saat ini tujuannya adalah untuk membentuk suatu ketika-Khalifah Islam di seluruh dunia dengan bekerjasama dengan sekutu kelompok ekstremis Islam untuk menjatuhkan rezim yang dianggapnya "non-Islam" dan membuang Barat dan non-Muslim dari Muslim negara.

Kelompok-kelompok ini berbagi al-Qaeda's Sunni Muslim fundamentalis dilihat. Three questions on Egypt: Three radical scenarios and one viable option. President Morsi has made many political miscalculations, but the opposition is divided and Egypt's deadlock persists. In the piece below, Marwan Bishara, the senior political analyst of Al Jazeera English, examines the complexity of political situation in Egypt
How did Egypt descend into this dangerous political deadlock?
There are a number of reasons why Egypt has descended into this situation. First of all, the Muslim Brotherhood and its political wing, The Justice and Freedom Party, chose to govern alone without soliciting support from the wider political spectrum.
President Mohamed Morsi has made several major political miscalculations, including the pseudo-constitutional expansion of his presidential powers that was struck down by the supreme court; his establishment of a government made up mostly of Brotherhood members and their supporters; and lastly, his failure and that of the government to fulfill the minimum expectations that the people had for the revolution in 2011.
A second factor is the marginalisation of a whole cross-section of less-organised but equally popular groups such as seculars, liberals, leftists; and the alienation of women and youth from the decision-making process.
Despite attempts at dialogue between the president and the so-called coalition of major opposition forces or the National Salvation Front, mistrust and conflicting narratives about the aims of the revolution have eroded the relationship between these previous partners in the revolution to unseat Hosni Mubarak.
Third, the revolution failed to adequately deal with the old power centres and their business interests. In the process major sectors of the Egyptians who were associated with the old regime for pragmatic purposes were alienated, finding themselves out of the jobs, on the street and out of sync with the new Egypt.
The lining up of the revolutionary forces and supporters of the old regime on the one side, versus the new president and his ruling party on the other, has worsened the problem and made it more difficult to ease tensions and redress grievances.
The failure of the various revolutionary forces - Islamists and secular, liberal and leftists, young and old, men and women - to form a collective transitional government, write up a new consensual constitution, and delineate a roadmap for transitioning to democracy meant that every major election or political decision became a source of friction between the two sides.
What's the state of play today?
Those opposing Brotherhood rule and calling for President Morsi's ousting (or for early elections) claim to lead a second revolution. On the other side, those supporting the president and the Brotherhood are accusing his detractors of crying foul and mounting a counter-revolution.
However, "new revolution" and "counter revolution" sound more like political slogans than representing the political reality of today's Egypt.
The demands for early elections by the ultra-religious Salafist Nour party, the second-largest bloc in the dissolved parliament, has further weakened the position of the Muslim Brotherhood. Likewise, the opposition forces have been exploited and compromised by the "reactionary forces" of the old regime who are trying to reverse the clock on the progress made over the two years under the banner of a second revolution.
Further complicating the situation is the recent intervention of the military. The armed forces made an implicit call asking both sides of the conflict to avoid escalating to violence, and later issued another more explicit ultimatum after the June 30 mass demonstrations calling for an end to the escalation within 48 hours. If this ultimatum is not fulfilled, the military has said it will intervene to end the violence and lead the country out of deadlock.
It remains to be seen how the new military pressure could affect the dangerous "clash of wills" between the ruling party and the opposition threatening civil disobedience. It's also unclear how the military is intending to interfere when Egyptians fill up the streets and public squares, and President Morsi and his Muslim Brotherhood show no sign of stepping down or aside.
Where is Egypt heading?
Egyptians speak of three dangerous, but to my mind unlikely, scenarios in the medium-term.
First scenario: the generals will use the credit they believe they earned by demonstrating that they are the true guardians of the nation - exemplified by when they walked out on former president Mubarak - to act more forcefully in political affairs in the future. However, any re-militarisation of the state following a return of the military and the imposition of new emergency laws to govern what seems to be ungovernable country following two years of revolution is unrealistic. It's not acceptable to the majority of Egyptians nor to the international community, especially among Egypt's supporters and creditors.
Second scenario: the Muslim Brotherhood will take radical action by either stepping down and out of politics, or claiming exceptional new authorities to rule in these exceptional times. President Morsi and the leadership of the Justice and Freedom Party attempt to hold onto power perhaps too narrowly, which has diminished their capacity to communicate better and more modestly. As a result, they seemed at a loss facing the mounting public pressures and at times in denial over the need to make serious initiatives, not mere gestures, towards their former partners in the revolution. Be that as it may, I don't think they are about to relinquish authority now after they enjoyed the taste of power.
Third scenario: the opposition, especially the part of which supported the old regime, will take over from the Muslim Brotherhood under the cover of the military intervention. Emboldened by the momentum of the streets to oust the president, it goes on to win future elections in coalition with anti-Islamist parties against a humiliated Brotherhood. This scenario not only makes unrealistic assumptions regarding the Muslim Brotherhood and its potent organisation, it also underestimates Egyptians' true desire for positive change going forward, not backward. Make no mistake, the Muslim Brotherhood is not going anywhere and would more likely enter into confrontations to defend its turf than surrender to the opposition or the lackies of the old regime.
However, considering that Brotherhood is far less likely to be able to rule alone, and the opposition wont be able to do the same, the only truly viable option - in the intermediate and long term, and one that fulfills the demands of the revolution - is the reversal of the logic that governed the political process over the last two years. It begins by having a true national dialogue among equals, i.e. among the political and civic groups representing the Egyptian people and their revolution over the identity, constitution and roadmap of a democratic Egypt. This would necessitate forming a representative forum for such dialogue, along with a transitional government, all of which would pave the way towards a sustainable model of power-sharing in a future Egypt. Alas, easier said than done.
